ANDERSON, Shirley Elaine
October 24, 1926 — August 15, 2017
Reverend Shirley Elaine Anderson went to be with her Lord and Saviour on August 15, 2017 in Kelowna, B.C. Born October 24, 1926 in Blackie, Alberta, Shirley was the youngest and beloved child of John and Beulah Anderson.
Predeceased by her parents Karl Johan (John) and Beulah Louise Henrietta Anderson; siblings Wilda (Don) Rhoades; Wilma (Jarvis) Miller; Russ (Sally, Russ’s first wife and Vera after Sally passed away) Anderson; Raymond Anderson; Len (Lucy) Anderson; George (Jeanette) Anderson; Lloyd Anderson; Florence (Bill) Campbell; and Lillian (Otto) Pelzer. Shirley is survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret Anderson (wife of her brother Lloyd) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley is also survived by her first Missionary Co-worker and lifetime friend, Verna Roberts, as well as her devoted and long-time friend, Grace McDuff.
Shirley was a prairie girl who had fond memories of growing up as an Alberta farm girl and in a loving and large family. Shirley often talked about accepting the Lord Jesus as her personal Saviour in a tent meeting while in her teens and how thankful she was for this life changing experience. She went on to spend 40 plus years as a missionary in Zimbabwe, Africa where she helped start over one hundred congregations in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Upon her retirement in Canada, Shirley held weekly Sunday morning services in Windsor Manor (now called Park Place Seniors’ Living) for twenty years. Shirley dearly loved her large extended family near and far and kept in close communication with them throughout her life. She was also a faithful and loyal dog owner. Shirley will be remembered as a strong, independent and fearless adventurer who travelled the world and who fiercely loved her Saviour, the Apostolic Church of Pentecost in Canada and Zimbabwe and her family and friends.
The family is grateful for the care she received while she resided at Rose Cottage and most recently at Glenmore Lodge.
There will be a time of visitation on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna.
Funeral service to be held on Saturday, August 19th at 2:00 pm at The Bridge Community of Faith, 2100 Gordon Drive, Kelowna with Pastor Mark Gordon officiating. A second service will be held in High River, Alberta followed by interment in the Anderson Family plot in the Blackie Cemetery. The date of the second service is yet to be determined. Over 45 years ago Shirley’s niece LaVonne and I went to High River Church to celebrate Shirley’s trip to Africa with her co-worker Wendy Kellond. I remember being impressed with the two single ladies who bravely and fearlessly left to bring the gospel of Jesus to lost souls, so far from home. Shirley served Jesus faithfully her whole life, and there is no higher calling.
May Jesus comfort you, her family, and give you His peace, as she has now attained that blessed hope, to be with her Lord.
I met Shirley 40 years ago at our Forest Lawn Church Calgary. What a wonderful dedicated person who expressed her love for the Lord with gentleness and passion . My condolences to her loved ones.

Shirley was an old fashioned pioneer missionary to Zimbabwe and Mozambique. She gave up much to gain more. Much fruit remains from her labours of love in Africa. She is greatly loved and highly respected by the A.C.O.P. Churches in Africa and Canada.

Our hearts are with everyone at this sad time. Shirley was always an awe inspiring, mysterious woman as I was growing up. Grandma(Wilma) always spoke with pride about her. I have fond memories of Shirley staying with our family when she came thru our city. I will always remember her making a bow and arrow for me and the many hours of enjoyment that special “toy” brought! She was an inspiration to so many and definitely had an impact on my life with her Godly example. So happy for Shirley she is home!
Sister Anderson taught all my family Sunday school and was so humble and could sing Shona songs, I remember, ACOP hymn number 1 “Shumirai Jesu”, together with Sister Kellond in Zimbabwe. We came to Christ through their selflessness, May her soul rest in peace!
