AQUILON, Marion Leona

July 20, 1930 — January 18, 2017

Peacefully, with her children by her side, Marion passed away at Sun Pointe Village on Wednesday, January 18th at the age of 86 years.  Left to treasure and hold dear her memory are: her daughters Lori (Gary), Janice (Chris), Karen, and son Mark (Kelly); grandchildren Jason (Rebecca), Jaydene, Courtney, Nick, Geordi, Taylor, Erin, Daniel and Remy; great grandchildren Cohen and Aysia.

Marion was predeceased by her adoring husband of 66 years, George, parents Leo and Irene Liston, brother Jim (Joan) and sister Helen (Francis).

“Babe” (as she was lovingly called) will also be missed by brother-in-law Ken (Donnie), sisters-in-law Aileen, Vivian, Barbara; and nieces Marlene (Fred) and Cory (Jim).

Marion was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on July 20, 1930. Growing up, she attended Catholic school and graduated from the Academy of Sion for Girls. Post secondary education commenced at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. In 1951 Marion graduated with a degree from the Canadian Society of Radiological Technicians. From 1951 to 1954 she held the position of chief technologist in the Radiology Department at Union Hospitals in Outlook and Melfort, Saskatchewan.

Marion met and fell in love with her best friend George and was married October 21, 1951. They moved to Kelowna in the late 50’s and several years later built their dream home in the lower mission where they resided for over 50 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, kept a beautiful home, was an excellent hostess, cook and gardener, but above all was a loving, dedicated and steadfast mother.  Marion had a multitude of close friends. Anyone who was lucky enough to know her, remembers her warmth and a smile that could melt your heart. She constantly put the needs of others before her own and her kind and generous nature was demonstrated by the countless hours she spent volunteering to help those less fortunate.   The church and community were a lifelong passion. The Catholic Woman’s League, St. Vincent de Paul and Inn From the Cold, benefited from Marion’s commitment. She was an Eucharistic Minister and participated in Perpetual Adoration for many years as well as volunteering at the Kelowna Cancer Clinic. Marion and George sponsored two children through Chalice, a Catholic Sponsorship Programme.  Marion enjoyed the social aspect of sport and was an avid curler. Golf, cross country skiing and tennis were also enjoyed as her children grew. Her many hobbies included sewing, knitting, bridge, piano and gardening. George and Marion travelled throughout Canada to Mutual Life conventions, explored the U.S. and Mexico on golf holidays and vacationed in Hong Kong. A Memorial Mass for Marion will be held at St. Charles Garnier Catholic Church, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna, B.C. on March 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., with celebration of life to follow. Interment of George and Marion’s urns together will be at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery at 12:30 pm.
