We Remember

BALDWIN, Alice Ann

December 1, 1931 — July 25, 2017

Alice Ann Baldwin (formerly Arnold, nee Graburn) passed away in Kelowna, BC on July 25, 2017 at the age of 85. Ann is survived by her six children: Elizabeth Arnold-Bailey, Catherine Bunton, Virginia Reed, Pamela Norgren, Edward Arnold, and John Arnold. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lauren Schachter, Claire Schachter, Joel Schachter, Jethro Bunton, Natalie Morris, Abby Barton, Liam Reed, Monica Reed, Chelsea Norgren and Michael Norgren; her great grandchildren: Jessika Bunton, Chloe Bunton, Harley Morris, Cassidy Morris, Austin Morris and Cambria Barton; and her two sisters: Linda McNally and Claire Love. Ann was predeceased by her husband Edward Douglas Arnold (Eddy) in 1971 and by her husband John Howard Baldwin (Jack) in 1991. After Eddy’s death Ann raised her six children. Midlife she studied nursing. After receiving her RN from Okanagan College, she worked at the Kelowna Hospital as a prenatal educator. She also lived in Tucson, Arizona for many years where she studied nursing and received her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Arizona. There she worked as a parish nurse into her 70s. Ann lived a long and good life. She gave much to her family and to the world. She was a fine friend and leaves many close friends behind. She was generous to those in need. She loved gardening and dogs, especially Tori. She instilled in her children many gifts including a love for music and the arts, as well as a keen appreciation for the beauty of nature. Her family is most appreciative of the exceptionally fine medical care she received from Dr. Paul Hart of Kelowna, of whom she was particularly fond. We also thank Evelyn Pimentel whose devoted care and assistance allowed Ann to live independently during her illness as was her wish. Ann left this world having lived a very full life. She left with few regrets and she will be sorely missed.

To celebrate her life a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 pm at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 4619 Lakeshore Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice House, 2035 Ethel Street, Kelowna, BC http://www.hospicecoha.org/ .

Condolences

  • Arnold Fine says:

I was “adopted” by Ann ( I NEVER called her by her first name…only her name when I met her at the age of 12…Mrs. Arnold. As fate would have it Arnold is my first name…..it is very sad to imagine a world sans Mrs. Arnold. She is/was one of the finest people I have ever known…..and god mother to our first born child. May all of us take a lesson in how to live a life, face happiness and sadness, and how treat our fellow human beings. She was one of a kind.

  • Alex Grant says:

Yes, I believe it was a wonderful, full life, but how can this be? Anne was so much herself when we shared a cup of tea in July at her sunny Kelowna apartment. I appreciated Anna’s ability for heartfelt talks. She always had time.

Please accept heartfelt condolences to the whole Arnold family. Our friendship goes back so many years.
