BLACKLOCK, Roger

October 16, 1925 — April 22, 2017

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Blacklock on April 22, 2017 at Kelowna General Hospital. He was born October 16, 1925 in Mooswa, Alberta, fourth son of Alexander and Armina Blacklock. Survived by his loving wife Joanna, daughters, Nancy Brandon, Judy (Miles) Lauer, Lisa Blacklock and son Mark (Sharon) Blacklock. Two grandsons Kyle Brandon and Ethan Blacklock. He is predeceased by his son David, parents and brothers Alex, Harry, Gordon and Edwin. He is survived by his sister Joyce Swan and brother Jerrold (Dorothy) Blacklock and sister-in- laws Gertrude Blacklock and Amanda Latiff.

Roger worked in the oil business most of his life, he was one of the pioneering employees at GCOS the first oil sands recovery plant in the world.  Retiring from Suncor after 20 years’ service in Fort McMurray. He was an avid golfer and curler. Travelled extensively in retirement visiting 42 countries. Sadly, Alzheimer’s robbed him of those pleasures in his last few years. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Dr. Christopher Livingston and the caring staff of ward 4 East at KGH. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday May 6, 2017 at 1650 Highland Drive North, Kelowna, BC from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

  • Joanna and her wonderful family. Sorry to read of Roger’s passing. We were distant cousins and we enjoyed meeting him and hearing stories of his growing up on the ranch and of Joanna’s first visit there. We have missed you in SLR book club and hope you will join us again.
