We Remember

BLANLEIL, Eileen

It is with deep sadness that the Blanleil family announces the passing of our mother Eileen Blanleil, Mom passed away at Kelowna General Hospital Tuesday April 26, the same hospital she was born in on March 14, 1937. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 53 years Andre Sr.in 2012. She leaves behind 3 boys Andre (Adele), Rene (Nikki) and Maurice (Shannon) all of Kelowna, 8 grandchildren, Courtney, Kyle, Brett, Chad, Cody, Lauren, Taylor and Travis, and a great grandchild Rion. Mom is survived by her 3 sisters Shirley Bach, (Kelowna), Helen Fearon, (Nanaimo) and Joan (Blair) Pyett of Kelowna; brother-in-law John and Violet Blanleil, brother-in-law Wilf Savard and several nieces and nephews. Moms parents Angelo (Andy) and Agnes Gaspardone immigrated from Italy and Scotland respectively and lived on Roanoke Ave in Kelowna’s north end. After marrying Andre Sr. in 1959, the family moved up to South Kelowna. There they raised 3 active boys that were always playing some sport, followed by 8 grandchildren that were also playing many sports. I’m sure Mom attended more sporting events than any Grandmother in this world. She was unbelievably supportive of her grandchildren and her boys. We will love her and miss her forever!

A Celebration of Eileen’s life will take place on Saturday, May 7th at 4:30 pm at the Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Kelowna Fastball PO Box 2073 Kelowna BC V1X 4K5 as a bursary will be set up in Granny’s name for her unfailing support for the game she loved.

The park will never be the same without Granny. She was a huge part of every game she attended. I’ve heard the same comments (“Blue, you missed a leadoff!”, “Blue, you must really like that pitcher to not call that a strike”, and a whole host of others). I grew up with her behind me, giving me the gears behind the plate. She’s going to be sorely missed.

My deepest condolences to the Blanleil family.
