George Waterson Bowie, born  in Falkirk, Scotland, to John Bowie and Agnes Waterson, passed away with family by his side on March 6, 2017 at the age of 96. He was predeceased by his loving wife Lorene Grace (Farrow), daughter Louise Pyle, granddaughter Robin Pyle, infant daughter Marie and sister Anna.  He is survived by son Bryan (Joy), son Laird (Debra) and son-in-law Derek Pyle.  Also survived by 6 grandchildren: Jodi (Shawn), Rick (Anna Jo), Jessica (David), Michael (Alya), Tristan (Maja), and Spencer (Alyssa); 5 great-grandchildren: Nathan (Stephanie), Janessa, Brayden, Colton and Hana; and one great-great-grandchild Aryana.  George is also survived by Aunt Gwynneth Foulds of Vancouver, two very special sisters-in-law, Rita (Bill), and Norene (Terry) of Kelowna, and many nieces and nephews.

George joined the RAF in 1940, and the RAF training Squadron brought him to the Royal Canadian Air Force Manning Depot in Penhold, Alberta in 1942. He met and married Lorene Grace Farrow in February, 1943 in Red Deer, moving to Kelowna after the war in 1946.  He worked in a grocery store for a year, then worked as a second engineer on the CN tugs plying the Okanagan Lake.  From there he worked as an engineer on the Kelowna to Westside ferry.  When the bridge was built over the Okanagan Lake, George started his own business as a gas fitter until retirement.  He was the patriarch of the Bowie clan, and a friend to many.  He will be missed.  No service by request.  A Memorial will be held at a later date.
