We Remember

BREDIN, Ertman Alfred ‘Al’

On January 7, 2017, Ertman Alfred Bredin, known to many as ‘Al,’ went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ in whom he had placed his faith during his youth. Ertman was born in the Ukraine October 3, 1925 and immigrated to Manitoba from Russia, with his family at the age of one and a half. The family moved to Kelowna when he was eleven. He met Agnes Fried in Kelowna, they fell in love and were married in December 1952.  So began an adventure and life of service to their Lord and to others, that took them to many places including Winnipeg, Manitoba; Vancouver, BC; Whiterock, BC, Victoria, BC; Honolulu, Hawaii; Lake Tahoe, CA; Los Angeles, CA; and then the Palm Springs, CA area, with brief forays to other locales.  He lost his beloved Agnes to cancer on September 4th, 2013.  Ertman moved back to Kelowna in August 2015 so that he could enjoy fellowship with and the support of his loving family and friends old and new.  Ertman is survived by his sister Ida Hemmerling of Kelowna and his sister-in-law Adaline (Sam) Bredin of Lynnwood, WA.  He also leaves to mourn his ‘thousands’ of nephews and nieces and their families, from both the Bredin and Fried lineage, as well as many other ‘family’ and friends too numerous to list.  Ertman was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Natalie Bredin, his siblings Ervin (Mary) Bredin, Sam, Archie (Anne) Bredin, Mary (Art) Klassen and recently his ‘schwager’ Otto Hemmerling.

A celebration of the lives of both Ertman and Agnes will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Trinity Church 1905 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.

Throughout their lives Ertman and Agnes had a passion for and affinity with the younger generations, therefore, those who wish to make a memorial donation in their honour are invited to direct donations designated to the ‘Next Gen Building Project,’ payable to Trinity Church, 1905 Springfield Rd., Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 7V7. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Condolences

  • Wes Herman says:

Uncle Al was one of the few “uncles” I had growing up. He wasn’t blood, but he certainly acted like he was. From his smile to his joking around, he was someone I always looked forward to seeing. Eventually we saw more of Al and Aunt Aggie. They lived near by in California and my wife and I would spend time with them. Always gracious and supportive. Al was a man who watched me grow up and spoke into my life through word or action in ways that were meaningful then and still have value now. We are so happy for him and where he is now! We are happy for the time we had with him and look forward to being reunited with him in time.

  • Laura Harder says:

It is with sadness that I have learned of All’s passing, but am so grateful that his suffering is over and that he is now with his Lord and his wife, Aggie. I send my condolences to his family and friends.
I would appreciate hearing from a family member sometime. My telephone number is 250869oo59.

  • RAY HILSCHER says:

I APRECIATED GETTING TO KNOW HIM & SPENDING SOME TIME WITH HIM, GOING OUT WITH HIM & FRIENDS FOR COFFEE.
I ENJOYED HIS COMPANY & FRIENDSHIP. GOD ANSWERED OUR PRAYERS & TOOK HIM HOME INTO HEAVEN TO BE WITH
HIS WIFE. HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL OF US.
