We Remember

CASE, Regina

March 28, 2024 — March 28, 2024

Regina was called home to be with her Lord and Saviour, on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.

Regina received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, a Master’s Degree in Counselling, and worked as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) for the past 20 years. She volunteered as the Kelowna Subchapter Coordinator of The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, and was the Founding Member and President of FOCUS – Families of Children Utilizing Services – For Life-Threatening Illnesses Society.

Regina loved teaching music, both in the school districts of Kelowna and Coquitlam, and also taught privately from her home studio. Fulfilling her dream to be a counsellor, Regina transitioned to her new career, feeling blessed to be in a position to help people, in BC and Alberta.

Her four daughters, and three grandchildren were her world. They called her ‘Mutti’ and ‘Omi-mi-mi’. Her grandkids reveled in her songs, stories, and playing piano. She enjoyed tennis, dancing, baking, writing, and exploring new places.

Regina is survived by her children, Joy (Greg Clark) of Vancouver, BC, Angela (Dave Ryll) of Vernon, BC, Roselyn (Brad Minnes) of Didsbury, AB, Donna (Franco Cuzzola) of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Declan Ryll, Abigail Minnes and Anneliese Minnes; and siblings, Wolf Schwan (Sheila) of Merritt, BC and Werner Schwan (Maureen) of Duncan, BC.

Regina was predeceased by her husband, Don Case; parents, Ruth and Gerhard Schwan; and sister, Christine Schwan. Please join us in celebrating the life of Regina Case on Monday, October 23rd, 1:00pm at First Lutheran Church, 4091 Lakeshore Road, Kelowna, BC. A private family interment will precede the service at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.

In living memory of Regina Case, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Calgary, AB.

In lieu of flowers, Regina’s daughters feel part of her legacy would be to ask you all to love one another, as Christ loved us.  However, Regina did volunteer for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, www.childrenswish.ca, so donations in Regina’s memory may be made there if family and friends so desire. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Special note from Regina’s family:

Regina was happily working regular hours counselling clients, playing tennis, canning peaches, making desserts with her grandkids, and generally keeping busy as she always did, even the day before she suffered a massive stroke on Sunday morning, September 17th.  She made sweet phone calls and texts to her daughters up until late Saturday evening.

Medically referred to as a Malignant MCA infarction, she was in care at Foothills Medical Centre (Calgary), which is exactly the best care she could have received as they specialize with acute care for stroke patients.

Unfortunately the type of stroke Regina suffered caused irreparable damage.

Regina’s children were all able to be at her side. Joy flew in from Vancouver, Angela flew back quickly from visiting in Montreal, and Roselyn and Donna thankfully live in Calgary area, and were able to be with her immediately. Regina was able to give squeezes of communication and acknowledgment that her loved ones were all around her.

She was surrounded with love, prayers, and music until she went peacefully to heaven Tuesday morning, September 19th. Regina’s families appreciate continued prayers and love, as this was so sudden and unexpected.

Joy, Angela, Rose and Donna-I am so sorry to hear of the death of your Mom. She was an inspiration to all that met her. I will never forget how she taught us all to sing in our singing group and her being my pioneer girl pal when we were little. Although I didn’t see her in recent years, she will be missed.

  • Brigitte Przybylski says:

Dear Joy, Angela, Roselyn & Donna,
Regina was a long time friend. She was one of my bridesmaids and was there for my 60th. She visited us on the Sunshine Coast and we got together a number of times over the years and kept in touch by phone sharing sad as well as many happy times and the hopes and dreams of our families.
Regina’s deep personal faith was evident. She switched from an emphasis on music to counselling as she knew she had so much to offer to help others cope in times of distress.
Regina loved her family dearly. She was so proud of each one of of her girls. Being a grandma was indeed a highlight.
She was taken away at a time when she still had so much to offer. We would have loved to be there for Regina’s memorial but cannot be in Kelowna at that time. However, I would love to get an order of service.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God surround you with his love.
    Brigitte & Benno Przybylski

  • Cheryl Kilboy says:

Dear Joy, Angela, Roselyn and Donna, I am extremely saddened to hear of Regina’s passing and I would like to give you my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your dear Mother. I know Regina loved you all so very much and she was so very proud of you always. I know she is so very happy now, in the presence of her blessed Savior Jesus. Regina was like a ray of light from heaven to me. She led me to Jesus when I was in my early 20’s and she was my mentor after that for all my life – someone I knew I could count on always. We were like sisters and I was always so very thankful to have her in my life. I met Regina in highschool, in Terrace, B.C. and we were friends throughout University years as well. I felt so very proud and privileged to be one of her bridesmaids when she got married and we kept in touch throughout the years, even after I got married and moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta. I traveled out to visit her when she was living in Maple Ridge and also in Kelowna. The last time I talked to Regina, she wanted me to come to visit her in Airdrie. I said that I would, as soon as I get my knee replacement and have recovered from it. I was so looking forward to seeing Regina again and also I wanted to see her daughters now they are grown up. I have been very worried about Donna, and also Joy’s husband Greg. I wonder how we can all carry on without Regina, but God will show us the way. Regina was such a wonderful treasure in my life and such a blessing. I’m so looking forward to seeing her again in heaven, just as if she was my real sister. My life would not have been the same if I hadn’t met her. She was like a dear gem that you only meet once in a lifetime. My love and blessings I send to you all. I will never forget my dear friend, Regina. xo xo

  • Heidi Mitchell says:

Dear Joy, Angela, Roselyn and Donna,
I’m very sad to hear about the sudden passing of your mom. Please accept my sincere condolences.
Regina and I go back to the 80’s when she and I taught in the Kelowna district together. Our families grew up together and we would often share holiday meals together. I remember especially Regina’s scrumptious baking!
I remember how excited the family was to welcome their last little sister, Donna, into the family and then how devastated everyone was when Donna was diagnosed with leukemia at age 5. While Don and the older girls held down the fort at home, Regina threw herself fully into the task of being with Donna at Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.
Regina was always a strong person and hard worker. I was impressed to hear of her change in career to become a Registered Clinical Counsellor. As well as tending to their family and careers, both Don and Regina were always ready to help their communities.
A love of music and of Christ was always evident in the Case family. A number of times I was invited to a Sunday service to hear the family perform. Regina told me at Don’s funeral how much the family’s music had brought joy and peace to Don during his illness.
It has been a blessing to have known Regina. She helped to make this world a better place!
Please accept my love and prayers during this difficult time! Sincerely, Heidi Mitchell

  • Diana Bright nee Bain says:

Please accept my sincere sympathy on the death of your mother. We were friends in Terrace at Riverside Elementary School and met again at SFU. Unfortunately we lost track of each other over the years. I remember her big smile and her friendliness. By all accounts she accomplished so much in her life. She is someone to look up to and admire.
