DMYTRIW, John

John Dmytriw passed away April 13, 2017. He was born to Mike and Anna (Kuczer) on January 1, 1933, on the family farm in the Swan Plain area, north of Norquay, Saskatchewan. John is survived by his loving wife, Olga of 60 years; sons: Donald (Frieda) of Vernon, BC, David of Kelowna, BC; grandson Kyle of Kelowna, BC and half-sister Donna of Calgary, AB.  He was predeceased by his mother Anna in 1949, his father Mike in 1994.  John attended Polcapelle and Bighorn public schools in Swan Plain area and completed his high school education in Sturgis, SK.  He attended the University of Manitoba, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1956.  Upon graduation, John joined the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company in Flin Flon, Manitoba as a Research Engineer.  In 1958, he joined the Canadian Public Service as a Meteorologist-in-training and was employed in the Meteorological profession until his retirement in 1989.  Special thanks to Dr. Michael Bobyn, the staff and caregivers at Cottonwoods, Driftwood Unit.  A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 19th at 1:00 pm at the Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.     Dear Olga,

    I was the director of the Canadian Forces Weather Service when John and you visited and spend some time in Ottawa, about 30 years ago. We spend some time together and we still have a few recipes that you passed on to my wife at the time. I also visited you in Colorado. I was quite fond of John, who was a no-nonsense manager.
    Please accept my sincere condolences upon his departure.
