To know her was to love her. She left an indelible mark on your heart because she was a loving and caring human being.  When you talked to her you felt her full attention and her authentic love.  A kind and noble woman who never let you down, she worked hard at her husband’s side and worked hard for her family, loving and appreciating them for who they were.  She was also loyal to her extended family, parents and siblings and their children, remembering their names, their achievements and their hardships, always sensitive to the experiences of others.  You could just tell that she was on your side and you truly could feel her love.  That is not to say that she was a pushover!  She had boundaries and even though she would cut you a lot of slack she had her limits and when she had enough she would respectfully let you know that you had crossed a line.  She was direct and honest.  She was an amazing role model, not only to her own children but to her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Her home was welcoming and this was evident by the many friends and relatives that came through her door and broke bread at her table.  There was food and love for everyone and the food at her table was delicious.  Her culinary expertise ranged from the Ukraine to Hungary and was complimented by fresh ingredients from her prairie garden.  She cooked with reverence because she worked hard to bring good nourishing food to the table for her family and friends.

She may have had some faults but today they fade from memory and all that remains is our broken hearts as we bid farewell to the best thing that ever happened to us, “our mother,” wife and friend.  Thank you, Mom; save us a spot at Heaven’s banquet table.
