We Remember

FREW, Steven Charles

February 10, 1937 — June 3, 2017

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Steven Charles Frew into the arms of His Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on June 3rd, 2017.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Phyllis; 2 sons: Rodney and Randal; daughter Rhonda: 2 brothers Peter (Sandra) and Bill (Joan); a sister Joell (David) in Australia; as well as in-laws Richard (Linda), Darlene (John); grandchildren: Jeff, Caitlin, Nadine and Joe; and great grandchildren Kai, Jayden, Ashton and Delilah. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Eleanor Frew; brother Thomas Michael; daughter Raenelle Diane and sister-in-law Francine Frew. Steve will also be missed and remembered by his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who all loved him very much.

Steve was born February 10, 1937 in Vancouver, BC. His early years were spent in Ocean Falls where he graduated from Ocean Falls High in 1954. He became an electrician in the local pulp and paper mill.  Steve was on the swim team, was a centre on the basketball team, owned a speed boat and loved fishing.  He married Phyllis in December 1957. Rodney was born in 1959, Randal in 1963 and in 1966 Steve moved his family to Kelowna where 2 daughters, Raenelle and Rhonda were lovingly adopted into the family.

Steve was employed by the Liquor Distribution Branch in the Leon Avenue Store. Throughout his 30 year career, from clerk to assistant manager, he occasionally relieved in other stores in the province as well as trained many beginning clerks. Steve was a supportive trainer for new staff, always encouraging with his dry sense of humour and a ready smile.

In 1981, Phyllis and Steve were guests at the Christmas outreach dinner at Kelowna Alliance Church. Steve attended Sunday service regularly with Phyllis. They were always thankful for the prayers and caring support of their church family, especially during difficult times.

Steve’s warm smile touched many. This quiet, gentle, and loving man will always have a place in our hearts.  We express our appreciation to the doctors and hospital staff who cared for Steve during his recent illness, as well as to the many family and friends for your prayers.

A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna with Pastor Keith Whitaker officiating.

In lieu of flowers a donation to Heart & Stroke Foundation www.heartandstroke.ca or the Cancer Clinic for the Southern Interior www.bccancer.bc.ca/our-services/centres-clinics/centre-for-the-southern-interior  would be greatly appreciated.

farewell until we meet again..thank you for being there when I needed a home so long ago….and thank you for your many attempts in teaching me just how curling was fun!?…I will miss you.

  • David and Maxine Baskill says:

For the short time we have known you and Steve, Phyllis, we formed a special bond with you both. We will surely miss him. Our hearts and prayers to you and your family.

  • Janice Johnstone says:

Thank you for all the wonderful memories of being my Uncle Steve since the early days of my life to my present 58 years of life. You will be missed and remembered as a gentle man with kind words, a big heart, and as far as I can always remember back, being supportive, loving, caring, of everyone around you. The memories I have of camping and swimming, eating Red River cereal in your kitchen, feeding those big Great Dane dogs, watching you on your back machine pool side, and playing a game of golf telling me I should play, and all the many many years of friendship you shared with my parents and us girls and my brother, will always be held close in my heart. You will be missed but happily remembered always. Love Janice

  • Jeff Watkins says:

Our deepest sympathies from the Colorado branch of the Watkins clan. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. That was a touching service. Thank you so much for making this available online for us that couldn’t make it to Kelowna. We are wishing you all love and healing in this difficult time.

  • Carol Thomson says:

Memory nourishes the heart, and your many memories of family and friends will support you in the coming months. Your friends in the teacher-librarian community are thinking of you, Phyllis.

  • Don Rampone says:

Phyllis… A very fitting tribute and thank you for posting the service. I was unable to attend in person but am very moved at your family and their ability to share his life with us. Peaceful thoughts with you until we meet again. Don
