We Remember

HAMILTON, Clayton Verne

April 24, 1933 — June 5, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Clayton Hamilton. ‘Hammy’ was born in Dodsland, SK and moved to Princeton at the age of 5 with his parents and 3 siblings.

At the age of 24, Hammy purchased his Insurance Business, which flourished for 36 years. In his lifetime, Hammy served the community and the people of Princeton in many different ways. He was the Justice of the Peace for 15 years, Alderman on Town Council, an active participant in numerous community projects and was instrumental in the creation of Memorial Park and the Princeton Posse Hockey Team. He was a long-time member of the Princeton Rotary Club, awarded a Paul Harris Fellow and a lifelong member of the Masons.

Hammy loved curling and played a big part in helping to build the current curling rink, where he enjoyed many years playing and socializing with his friends.

Hammy and Karen, his wife of 32 years had a wonderful life together filled with dear friends. They shared many adventures travelling the world, made life-long friends but most of all, Hammy cherished time spent making memories with family.

Clayton is predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Lila May, his brother Keith and his 2 sisters, Jean and Beth. He is also predeceased by his first wife Audrey.

Hammy is survived by his wife Karen, stepchildren: Shelley, Dawn, David, Scott and their spouses; his grandchildren: Luke, Ainsley, Brittnee, Alexandria, Jeffrey, Joel; 2 great grandchildren: Emily Claire and Jackson. Clayton is also survived by his nieces and nephews. Hammy was a generous, giving, gentle and sentimental man. He loved and was well loved.

  • Neil McHaffie says:

Hammy was a wonderful business partner and friend for 32 years. A very gentle man, scrupulously honest, always ready with a cheerful greeting. Fran and I had years of wonderful experiences with Hammy and Karen, and are so much richer for their friendships. So many memories, all of them joyful.

  • Tim Keogan says:

  • John Harper says:

On behalf of my family, Mother Reba, sister Linda, and Sue, and all of our children, we are thinking of you today, Karen. We have nothing but the fondest memories of your visits, and our conversations with Clayton. Personally, I always enjoyed talking with him, and more importantly listening to what he had to say, in the quiet, thoughtful, way of his. He, I would judge, was a man who lived life fully, and most certainly gave back to his community in many significant ways. A loss certainly, but a man, who we can proudly remember as a good one, a thoughful one, and a caring one.

There are sunrises and sunsets, but is what we do in between that counts.
