We Remember

HANSEN, Delmer “Del”

November 14, 1942 — February 13, 2017

Del was born to Hans and Charlotte Hansen in Swift Current Sask. on November 14 1942.
At the age of 3, he moved with his brothers and sisters to Kelowna, B.C. where he spent the remainder of his life. He left high school to work at Safeway which then led him into his lifetime career of food brokering. He loved golf, fishing and RVing. He loved entertaining family, friends and business associates.

Del was a good friend to many and generous to a fault. He was a family man through and through and so having passed away on February 13, BC Family Day, was so fitting with all of us by his side that day. He survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Pat; his three children Tamra Hansen, Kimberly (Jay) Taylor and Chris (Ana) Hansen; Six Grandchildren Sydney and Sophia Taylor; Miguel, Sammy, Marianna and Agustin Hansen. As well as 6 brothers and sisters and their families too many to list, none the less, he will be missed by all.

We were so blessed to have had the care of Dr. Michael  Bobyn, he quickly became a friend and confidant of Dels and we thank him from the bottom of our hearts. We also want to give special thanks to the palliative care nurses and caregivers at the Central Okanagan Hospice for all of the loving care they gave him during his stay there. Words can not express our gratitude.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 17th at 4:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Rd, Kelowna, BC.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Central Okanagan Hospice Association www.hospicecoha.org. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

It is with a heavy heart that we find our dear friend and business partner has passed away. Del and his family have been like family to us for many years. Our children grew up together and often smiled at some of Del’s antics. We were lucky to have also share several holidays with Pat and Del and always remember the family times at Beaver Lake. We will hold these memories in our hearts forever and hope to be of support to Pat and the family in any way we can. Loving thoughts are send your way and Prayer’s are a given. love all of this lovely family. Don and Val

  • Maite Briceño says:

I want to send my condolences to the whole family. The sky has won a new angel, however, nevertheless, no one will ever be able to fill the void that you are feeling today in your soul and in your heart, but think that his pain is already over and now is in a beautiful place. I send you a big hug!!!

  • Carmen Porras de Briceño says:

In this life we are destined to be very high and very low as well. That is why we will have to go through sad losses like those of our loved ones, but after the storm comes the light, so soon we will all find ourselves again in a place where we will remain united forever. Let us thank God for allowing us to enjoy the company of Papa Hansen, someone so special for so long. It is time to let our Grandfather return to where he belongs, to heaven. We will not see it for a while, but we can feel it in us all our lives. The love that united us to the wonderful person who left today has become stronger and will continue to grow bigger every day. We have had the joy of knowing someone who with his presence and smile rejoiced our days, and now the celestial beings that accompany him will enjoy the great happiness that we had. Grandma Pat, how I would like to be with you right now, but it is impossible for me, but my heart is with the whole family, I love you very much, we will see you soon, a hug, a kiss and many blessings.

  • Lesley says:

So sad to hear of Del’s passing. With deepest sympathy, our condolences to you and your families. We have such fond memories of the fun times at the Capri Shop-Easy / Supervalu, certainly working under Del in the produce department there gave me my start to what has become a life long career. It was nice to connect with Dell once again while I worked at the IGA.
