We Remember

Heese Henry Heinz

HEESE, Henry “Heinz” Karl

Henry “Heinz” Karl Heese went to be with the Lord on January 29, 2017, at the age of 92.

He is survived by his daughters Marlene Heese of Vernon, BC and Monica (Greg) Schmidt of Kelowna, BC; seven grandchildren: Nicole (Thomas) of Olds, AB; Kayla of Kelowna, BC; Talea (Michael) of Nelson, BC; Janelle of Edmonton, AB; Ryan of Vernon, BC; Kalista and Lydia of Kelowna, BC; three great grandchildren: Abigail and Lily of Olds, AB; and Rebekah of Nelson, BC; as well as his brother, Bill (Anne) and sister, Heidi (John) of Winnipeg, MB.

Predeceased by his loving wife, Liesel of 55 years; and son William.  His mother and father, 1 brother and 2 sisters.

Henry was born on January 23, 1925 to Frank August and Katarina (Dick) Heese in Gronau, Westfallen, Germany.  The oldest of 6 children.

He loved music.  He started to play harmonica at the age of 4 and continued until 2 days before his passing.  He also learned how to play the accordion at a young age.  Henry enjoyed playing for other people, joined choirs and music groups, even in his senior years became part of a band the “Golden Nuggets” and enjoyed playing at different senior homes.

He also had a sweet tooth, and loved marzipan in particular.

After his wife died, Henry moved to Carrington Place in Vernon, where he enjoyed living very much and entertained the staff and residents with his playing of the harmonica and telling jokes, never forgetting the punchline. Early in January, he took ill with viral and bacterial pneumonia, and after a three week battle he died peacefully in Vernon Hospice house.

  • Dear cousins Marlene, Monica and family. We are very sorry for the loss of your father Henry and not long ago your mother Liesel. I also recall Uncle Henry playing his accordion at our many family gatherings. We have not seen your parents in person for many years but have lots of fond memories and pictures. God bless you all.
