Passed away on June 20, 2015 at the age of 60.  Survived by her parents Lloyd and Margaret Henderson of Rosetown, SK, her husband Derek Fletcher, her sons: Adrian (Heather) Konstant of Kitchener, ON, Korstiaan Wapenaar of Calgary, AB, and Timon Wapenaar of Barcelona, Spain, her sisters Dawn Welsh of Nanaimo, BC and Maureen (Jim) Neumeier of Saskatoon, SK, her brothers Grant (Joan) Henderson of Rosetown, SK and Warren Henderson (Marion Barschel) of Kelowna, BC and her in-laws Ian and Margaret Fletcher and their family.

Laurie led a life full of music and teaching spanning from Saskatchewan to South Africa and back to Canada.  She spent her final days in Kelowna working for the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra.

Above all, Laurie was a nurturer to her sons, to her husband Derek, to her friends and to all the people – young and old – she touched throughout her life.

Laurie is one of the few people to have made a tangible difference to the lives of so many others.  As director of the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Co., her care and compassion for her students and staff extended far beyond their musical development; it was more about their growth as people.

Laurie continues to inspire us and lead us by example.

We love you Laurie.  Let the wind carry you.

A celebration of Laurie’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 4:30 pm at the Springfield Funeral Home Family Center, 2020 Springfield Rd, Kelowna, BC.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Center for the Southern Interior www.bccancer.bc.ca or to the Central Okanagan Hospice House www.hospicecoha.org

    Had the pleasure of meeting Laurie last year at Adrian &Heather s wedding and at Heather,s shower in Ontario.She was a bright light that lite up a room. She was a so full of life and vitality even thru her pain, it amazed us. Happy to have had the privilege of meeting this lovely lady,even do briefly. Rest in peace..our deepest condolences to Adrian, Heather and all the family.

    Margaret, Lloyd, Dawn, Maureen, Grant and Warren –
    How fortunate I was to have met Laurie on several of her visits to Rosetown. It was obvious that she adored you and you her. I’m thinking of you all as you mourn her loss and celebrate her beautiful life. Be inspired by her generous spirit. Her music lives on.

    Dear Derek and family.
    I am so saddened to hear of Laurie’s passing.
    I enjoyed getting to know her in the horn section of OSO and Kelowna City Band. Besides being a fine horn player, she was always kind and willing to accommodate herself to whatever was best for the “horn section” in music and in personal relationships
    We will miss her.

    Dear Henderson and Fletcher families,
    Laurie was indeed one of a kind and wish there were more people like her. I knew her through the OSO. She joined the organization just after huge problems many caused by inadequate or unsuitable staffing. I remember going home feeling very relaxed and happy after meeting Laurie – FINALLY they had chosen a suitable person to be on the office staff. The great work that she did for the OSO for many years is so appreciated. She is in no small part responsible for the present success of the organization. Among her other gifts were wonderful people skills and a respect for the volunteers which had been so missing in the past.
    We will all miss her very much and send you our sympathy in your greater loss.

    I am shocked an deeply saddened by the passing of a unique spirit. We were good friends at one time, although we fell out of touch over the distances and years, she was often in my thoughts. I will never forget her. Please accept my sincere condolences.

    My sincere condolences to the Henderson and Fletcher families for the loss of such a beautiful and talented person in Laurie. We were high school friends through our shared love of music and we both chose careers in music and teaching. Laurie always had such a special charm and spirit and always shared her talents and her beautiful way with all that she met. I will miss her dearly. God bless you Laurie.

    I have just now heard of Laurie’s passing. We were high school friends and I always so enjoyed Laurie. She had her own wings and she flew. Sincerest condolences to the Henderson and Fletcher family.

    So very saddened to hear about Laurie’s passing. She was a high school classmate and we were both members of the ROSCHI band and choir. Her smile would light up any room she was in and she was always fun to be around. Sincerest sympathy goes out all of her family and friends. Thinking of you.

    I have just heard this afternoon while attending a concert here in Johannesburg by the Youth Orchestra that dear Laurie loved and put so much energy into founding of her death. Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. She was such a warm lively truly good person whom I will never forget during the happy years my son Malcolm played in the orchestra.She worked so hard and always put the children first and related so well to them all.
