HERBERT, Douglas Bruce

Passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016 at the age of 96 years. Doug will lovingly be remembered by four children: Lynn (Barry), Diane (Wim deceased), Joan (John), Doug Jr.; grandchildren: David (deceased), Kim, Leisa (Ken), Stephen, Cindy (Brian), Justin and Chrystelle; step-grandchildren: Anissa (Rob), Johnathan; 19 great grandchildren and most wonderful friend and cherished caregiver, Pat.  Predeceased by his loving wife, Norah, his mother Gladys, father Gordon, brothers Garnet and Ralph and dear sister, Mona.  Doug was born in Vancouver but lived most of his 96 years in Kelowna.  He served as Corporal in the Canadian Army during World War II.  Doug served the City of Kelowna for 32 years in various capacities.  In 1970 he was promoted to the position of City Administrator. Doug was an ardent snow skier since the age of 17 and he also loved boating and water skiing.  “Herbert’s Hollow,” a ski run at Big White Ski Resort was named in Doug’s honor in appreciation for his many years of volunteer services in various capacities.  Doug was an ardent and very particular photographer who loved to aggravate his children and grandchildren by making them pose in “just the right way.”  The family is very grateful for the loving care and support over the last three years offered by the staff at Three Links Manor.  A very special heartfelt thanks to caregivers, Barb and Daniel; nurses Agnieszka and Valentina.  Doug’s kind and gentle manner will be missed by all who knew him.  Honoring his wishes, there will be a private service.
