We Remember

KIRK, Bruce Thomas Haddon

July 13, 1935 — July 30, 2017

Bruce was born in Vernon, BC on July 13, 1935 and passed away quietly on July 30, 2017 at the age of 82.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Karen, sons Robert Bruce Kirk – Redwater, AB, Glen Kirk (Geneva) – Kelowna; daughters Taylor Ann Kirk – West Kelowna, Shannon Profili (Rick) – Grand Forks, BC, and Carol Pal – Victoria, BC. He had many grandchildren: Tammy, Mandi, Kim, Jalayla, Kelsey, David, Cinnamon, Michael, Danielle, Savannah, Cayenne, Sage and Paris. Bruce is survived by his sisters Margaret-Anne Evans, Stephanie Spiers (Daryl), and brothers Barry (Ellen), Douglas (Millie), Robin (Heather) and Dale (Susan). Family which predeceased Bruce were parents Harry and Margaret Kirk, and brothers Richard, Hubert, Wayne, Neil and Ian.

Bruce was a man of many talents. He joined the Air Force where he was trained in electronics, and developed a love for flight. He went on to use his training with CN Telecommunications and BC Tel, working in many places in BC, as well as in Whitehorse, where his skill was much sought after. He was a hard-working man who did his work with integrity, and was an excellent provider for his family.

Bruce loved all things automotive. He received his pilot’s license and purchased his own Cessna 152 which he flew for a number of years. He also sailed and captained his many boats on both lake and ocean. His longest-lasting passion, however, was motorcycles. He and Karen were members of the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club in Victoria, with which they enjoyed several years of local and long distance rides, proudly wearing their leather Canadian jackets.

Bruce also had a great love for music, which he shared with Karen. Many of his motorcycle trips were to Bluegrass festivals, and in later years he loved to attend local Grand Ole Opry nights. Music was a source of joy and consolation, whether he was listening to it, trying to learn some pieces on his various instruments, or humming a few bars. We will never listen to “Danny Boy” without thinking of you, Bruce. You will be remembered for your generosity, yes your crustiness, too, but always for your faithful devotion to your family.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
