We Remember

LEVELL, Charlotte Elizabeth

August 6, 1955 — October 23, 2017

After living, loving, inspiring and learning through cancer, Charlotte Elizabeth Levell took her last dance on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the age of 62. Charlotte was born on August 6th, 1955 in Kelowna, B.C and was the fourth of five children. She is survived by her daughters, Lindsay (Dave) and Chelsea (Romeo) and their father Doug Levell, her five grandchildren, Emma, Annie, Aidan, Lennox and Cordelia, and her siblings, Greg (Dani), Susan (Yogi), Steven (Sheila), and Marilyn, as well as fifteen nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Murray Cowie and Constance Marie Green.

Charlotte graduated from Kelowna Secondary School in 1973 and received a teaching degree from the University of Victoria. A bright light and mentor among both her colleagues and students, she taught in School District 23 for 35 years and retired in 2012. She was a vibrant soul, who enjoyed a healthy and active lifestyle, socializing with friends, taking walks and enjoying music and dancing. Her greatest joys and source of pride were her children, her grandchildren and her garden, all of whom continue to bloom in her memory. Charlotte was the embodiment of grace, peace, hope and courage; she motivated us all, in the words of the Apache prayer, to “walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life.”

Her family would like to thank Dr. Shari Claremont, Dr. Deepu Mirchandani and the rest of the staff at the Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre for the Southern Interior, and especially the staff at the Central Okanagan Hospice House, with whom Charlotte shared many moments of care, inspiration and laughter. A celebration of Charlotte’s life and legacy will be held on November 11, 2017 at 4 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Rd (with online streaming at http://www.springfieldfuneralhome.com/obituaries/). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Central Okanagan Bursary and Scholarship Society (COBSS), 316 – 3001 Tutt Street Kelowna, BC V1Y 2H4, for an award to be established in Charlotte’s name, for students pursuing a career in Elementary Education.

    Chelsea and Lindsay
I am so very sorry for your loss. I wish I’d had the chance to get to know your Mom. I believe her memory will live on in the hearts of all the young people she so positively influenced in their formative years.

  • Tiffany Oakes says:

Mrs. levell was my second grade teacher in 1996/97, at Spring Valley Elementary. I have only a few memories as I was so young. She used music and art to educate and she made every class a fairy tale. There were lots of colours in the room and we would move our desks into different shapes. We danced. We sang. I now teach music to preschool aged children and I will remember her in those moments and smile. Much love to the family and to those who were lucky enough to learn from Mrs. Levell.
