We Remember

LOEPPKY, Edvin Harry

February 22, 1943 — September 6, 2017

Ed to everyone who met him, was born on February 22, 1943 to Henry and Margaret Loeppky in Steinbach, Manitoba. From a young age, Ed worked hard at his parents’ convenience store and was always ready and willing to help support his parents, brother Ron and sister El in any way possible. Ed’s life was forever changed on Friday, September 13, 1963 when, on a blind date, he met the love of his life, Bonnie. On September 4, 1965, he married his sweetheart in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ed and Bonnie moved to Mississauga, Ontario shortly after their wedding, and later became a business owner in partnership with, Win Pixley at Pixley Decorating Centre. In 1972, Ed and Bonnie adopted their son Craig and entered the amazing world of parenthood. A year later, in 1973, they welcomed the birth of their son Chris. In 1974, they moved their family to Guelph, Ontario, and a year later, in 1975, they celebrated the birth of their daughter, Patti.

While living in Guelph, the family attended Harcourt United Church where Ed was always involved in ministry. Ed had a passion for fellowship and was instrumental in establishing the church’s Men’s Breakfast gatherings.

In 1986, Ed and Bonnie decided to move the family west to Kelowna, British Columbia. Ed soon became involved in ministry at Trinity Baptist Church. This is where Ed’s passion for the youth of the church began to shine through. Ed helped scores of youth raise money for missions trips, camps, and choir tours by starting a catering business for the church and employing the youth. Here he taught the young people the value of hard work, discipline, and gave them a sense of accomplishment that allowed them to earn the money the needed to spread the love of Jesus around the globe. Ed and Bonnie also travelled with Trinity’s youth choir and became the “Choir Mom and Dad” for the choir’s yearly tours. Ed touched hundreds of lives by simply showing Christ’s love in practical ways. He lived his faith and shared God’s love.

Later, Ed and Bonnie began attending Willow Park Church. Ed was always happy to lend a hand in the kitchen or create hundreds of Christmas tree stands for the Living Nativity. Ed loved to help and give. Ed was also a passionate supporter of Gardom Lake Bible Camp. He dreamed of the day he would send his grandchildren to summer camp to deepen their love and knowledge of Jesus.

In 2011 & 2015, Ed and Bonnie fulfilled a lifelong dream and traveled to Hawaii. Ed loved Hawaii, and if you ever saw him in his red shorts and Hawaiian shirts, you couldn’t help but smile at his childlike glee when talked about the beaches of Maui. He shared his love of the beach with his granddaughters and would take them to Kelowna’s own “Hawaii” beaches in the summertime.

Ed was an avid wood worker and could be found working in his wood shop throughout the year. His furniture and picture frames can be found in the homes of his numerous friends and many children have enjoyed his tables, chairs and desks. Ed was always quick to share and happy to create whenever the need was there.

Ed loved his family. His life became complete when he became a grandfather. His love for his grandchildren was limitless. Ed’s one regret when he learned of his medical prognosis was he would not be able to see his grandchildren grow up. His eyes would light up when the grandkids entered the room and his love will forever shine in their hearts.

We would like to give our sincere thanks to Dr. Dan Obedkoff for his wonderful love and care for Dad. We would also like to thank all the staff at the Kelowna Hospice House for their kindness during Dad’s last days.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Rd, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gardom Lake Bible Camp designated “Camperships” www.gardomlake.ca.

To: Bonnie, Patti, Tyson, Isabella, Kaitlyn and family:
This is a very difficult thing to do, write a condolence for Ed. We will all miss him. Brian and I will miss our great visits, our dinner gatherings, our giggles around the supper table. There was never a dull moment with all of us around the table, the girls would always make us laugh. Ed would sit in his chair at the end of the table watching the girls with a happy gleam in his eyes enjoying every moment. Those wonderful times together will always be cherished by Brian and I. When you speak of Ed, your husband, your Dad, Your Grandfather, your Friend, thoughts of him should not be sad, let the great memories, the good times you shared with Ed bring comfort to you and warmth to your heart.
Let the good memories fill your heart at this challenging time.
    We will miss you Ed.
    Love always,
    Donna and Brian Chambers

Dear Bonnie and family. I have many fond memories of working for Ed at Pixley Decorating back in 1972-77. I am very appreciative to Ed for all the valuable training he gave me in the paint business, which I am still in. Both you and Ed were so generous to all the staff. I only remember your children in their younger years but remember how proud you were of your family. I am so glad to have gotten in touch again with you and Ed a couple of years ago and to have a few chats of the good old days. Cherish all the good memories. You and your family are in our prayers.

We remember the Loeppky family very well. It has been many years since we have hreard about the family & we would like to send our love & wishes for your coursge & strength at this time. Life in Sperling so many years ago was pretty great…in our tiny town everybody pretty well knew everyone else’s business. The Leoppky family were a gentle group, it is not surprising that Edwin went on to accomplish so many wonderful, meaningful things. It sounds like he made a big contribution to many people & lived a full life. How many of us can say that? Edwin’s family can be so proud. RIP dear Edwin.
