We Remember

LOEPPKY, Edward

Passed away suddenly at Kelowna General Hospital on September 12, 2016 at the age of 76 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary; daughter Twyla (Gary) Schlenker; son Todd (Roxane); daughter Suzanna (Lyndon) Dojohn; daughter Jamie (Tom) Janovsky; his grandchildren Kristi (Tyler) Kort, Leesa & Jeffrey Schlenker; Brett & Ty Loeppky; Benjamin, Haley & Connor Dojohn and Simon & Marcus Janovsky; sister Rosella (Ben) Friesen and their family.

Edward’s humble beginnings were in the small house on Main Street in Niverville, Manitoba where he was surrounded by a large extended family and many close friends. After completing Grade 11, Edward attended Elim Bible School for one year. He began working at the Steinbach Credit Union. He proudly married the love of his life, Mary (Kasdorf) on July 11, 1963, and was immediately blessed with many brothers and sisters in law who would become lifelong friends. A year later Ed and Mary became proud parents with the birth of their first daughter, Twyla. At that time Ed began a new position in hospital administration in Steinbach. Three years later they celebrated the birth of their son, Todd and Edward took a position at the hospital in Preeceville, Saskatchewan. Family and friends pulled them back to Steinbach, where he began his role as salesman at E.G. Penner Building Center. In 1969, Ed branched out on his own and purchased the local jewellery store, renamed Edward’s Jewellers where he was soon known as ‘Diamond Ed’. That same year they delighted in the birth of another daughter, Suzanna.  Two years later, their family was made complete with the birth of their daughter Jamie.

Ed’s dream to move his family to Kelowna, BC was fulfilled in 1978, when he sold the jewellery store. He continued his passion for sales by joining the team at Kelowna Chrysler. Because he loved people and selling cars he received several awards as ‘salesman of the month’ and became well known in the community. In 2004 he joined his son at Todd’s Automotive until he suffered a stroke in 2009. He continued his career path at Home Depot, serving as a greeter, allowing him to connect with people.

Edward LOVED life! He loved Jesus, who was his Lord and Saviour. He loved his family, who were his pride and joy. He loved his grandchildren and celebrated each activity, sport and event they participated in as their biggest cheerleader. He loved his church and serving others with passion. He loved to be active: golfing, coaching baseball, writing notes of encouragement, treating his family to Dairy Queen soft serve, snowmobiling, watching the Winnipeg Jets and the Blue Bombers, going for coffee with a friend, cheering on the Kelowna Rockets or going for a drive. Yes, he loved much and he was loved by so many. Thank you for sharing life with Edward. He will be dearly missed here and we are confident he is eagerly greeting those whom he is meeting in heaven.
