We Remember

LUCOVIC, Pauline Rose (nee Senkow)

September 2, 1940 — June 27, 2018

Pauline Rose Lucovic was born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan on September 2, 1940. She entered Heaven’s gates on June 27, 2018. A loving homemaker, Pauline was a remarkable gardener, particularly deft at conquering hardiness zones and cultivating lavish gardens in harsh northern latitudes.

Pauline was the eternal optimist, her sense of humor always serving her well. In school years, she loved to entertain the class, being chosen the Carrot River Queen of 1957 in high school. Pauline left the farms of Carrot River in 1962 for the mining town of Thompson in northern Manitoba, where she met the love of her life and married Simon. They raised two boys who would challenge her as only boys can. Pauline was unwavering in her support and guidance for the boys as they meandered through life.

Pauline obtained a degree in Interior Decorating in 1974, which was the gateway to her many creative hobbies. She was constantly building chandeliers, seashell mirrors and lamps. When she put the tools down, she was cooking up a storm. Pauline loved to prepare meals for her family and friends.

Pauline was an active community volunteer, considerably involved with her sons’ minor hockey and school programs, and local organizations like the IODE. She was instrumental in helping bring the King Miners Junior A hockey franchise to Thompson in 1975.

Pauline found great success starting a career in real estate in 1979 and could sell the same house three times. In the 80s and 90s, she followed the travel career of her husband, and enjoyed living and volunteering in communities in Indonesia, Australia and Japan. In 1995, Pauline and Simon found their dream retirement home and moved out to sunny Kelowna, BC.

Over many years, Pauline collected a large library of decorating and cook books from around the world. She loved to watch politics and cooking channels during her spare time, and mastered the iPad later in life, which opened up many more doors of discovery.

Pauline was surrounded by abundant friends and family and was particularly close to her sister Pat and her family.

She was predeceased by her sister Mary and brothers Willie, Dan and Matt.

Pauline is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Simon Lucovic, and her two sons, Stan and his wife Deb, and Dan and his wife Christine. She is also survived by four grandchildren Andrew, Sarah, Steven and Nicholas, her sisters Anne, Sandy (Harold), Pat and Phyllis and her brother Joe, all from Western Canada, and by her in-laws from Herzegovina: Stan (Christine), Zvonko (Sanka), Ante (Stephanie), Maria (Ante), Vince (Lucia) and Ivanka. Pauline is also survived by countless nieces and nephews.

The ICU staff at Kelowna General took great care of Pauline in her final days. The family gives them and everyone else who cared for Pauline their warmest gratitude.
