We Remember

MAKELKI, Rose

January 8, 1947 — May 19, 2023

Rose Makelki passed away on May 19, 2023, with her family by her side. She will be forever in their hearts.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Makelki; children Theresa (Mike), Teri, and Tony (Bree); and grandchildren Ryley, Tyler, Adrianne, Colby, and Faith.

Rose was an outgoing, happy, bubbly chatterbox that everyone loved.  She lived for her family and friends and nothing made her happier than to be with them.  Rose truly exercised unconditional love.  She spent a lifetime taking care of others: her children, grandchildren, husband, and friends.  Her kindhearted nature led her to choose a career as a long-term care aid which could not have been more of a perfect fit as she lived to nurture everyone.

The family is sincerely grateful to everyone who loved and supported their mom and the family over this time of loss.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose’s name to the Central Okanagan Hospice House.  The team at the Hospice House gave Rose amazing and loving care in her last few weeks.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 1:00 pm, at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 839 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna BC. Interment will follow the funeral mass at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery, 1991 Bernard Ave, Kelowna, BC. Reception to follow the interment at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church.

Sending all my love and deepest condolences to the entire family. Aunt Rose was an amazing woman and I will miss her very much. She always laughed hard, loved fiercely and was the best at keeping conversations lively! She had a big impact on my life, mostly in my younger years but she has always been one of my favorite people. I hope that you cherish your memories of her and that they provide you with some comfort during this difficult time. I have included some photos of our last visit, which was very special for all of us. Love you all. Xo ❤️❤️

My warmest condolences for the loss of your mom, the most kindest, giving person ever.
My most fondest memories of my sister-in-law would be how she would always pull you
Into her famous it’s-so-nice-to-see-you hug, with a warm welcoming smile.
She would also make sure there was always a banquet of all sorts of food spread out on the table
She was a very beautiful and special person, who will be missed by many
Rest in peace, Rose, we love you!

  • Sharlene and Peter Scott says:

  • Ev Sather says:

Rose was one of my favourite people. I met her in school in grade 9, and she was my sister-in-law for. almost 43 yrs. We made many wonderful memories over the years. I’m deeply saddened by her passing. A bright light left this world with her. She lived her life well, and left a lovely legacy for her family and friends to remember her by. Rest in peace, Rose. I’m so glad I got to see her twice, and will cherish those visits.
My deepest condolences to John, and her family. Sending love to you all.❤️❤️
    Aunt Ev

  • Mary Reaves says:

I loved working with Rose at Cottonwoods. She was a Great nurse!

  • Shelley Harms & Bruce Harms says:

We are very sorry to read that Rose has left us and joined our mom (the other Rose) – we are sure that the two of them are keeping watch over all of us and are enjoying the memories and the laughter. Bruce and Shelley have fond memories of Beaver Lake and Auntie Rose’s smile and laughter. Sending the whole family hugs and thoughts and we hope that all the memories bring you some joy in this difficult time.

  • Stephen Dixon & Evelyn Marcoux says:

Rose loved sharing time with those around her and everyone loved to be with Rose. Her wonderful sense of humour, infectious laugh and inquisitive nature made every encounter a treat. Even when in poor health, her positive spirit and generous nature shone through to those around her. Her love of family and friends was far-reaching but her greatest and deepest affection was reserved for Terry, Theresa and Tony. Wherever you are Rose, a small piece of you lives on within everyone who had the privilege to share a part of your life. ❤️
