We Remember

MANDZAK, Murray Andrew

Murray Andrew MANDZAK 54, of West Kelowna passed away on February 6th, 2016 with his family by his side, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Murray was born in Prince Albert, SK on May 14, 1961. Murray graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. He began his career with Woolco in 1984, which then merged with Walmart in 1994. He spent the last 12 years of a successful 31 year career with Walmart in Penticton and West Kelowna. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his wife of 25 years, Lana (Gledhill) Mandzak, his daughters, Melissa Mandzak (Draason Verissimo) and Ashley Mandzak. Murray is survived by his parents, Dennis and Helen Mandzuk, his siblings, Duncan (Marie) Mackenzie, Marilyn (Paul) Bourgeois, Alan Mandzak, and Ron (Jackie) Mandzak and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Murray was an extremely humble and generous member of the community. He donated his time, money and skills to countless charities and volunteer organizations. Sports was a major source of enthusiasm for Murray, specifically football – Go Raiders and Seahawks! He was also an avid baseball fan (Blue Jays and Mariners). Murray was known as ‘Mr.Google.’ His knowledge of sports stats, music, movies and trivia was unmatchable. Murray loved road trips, especially the beauty of the Oregon Coast. In his downtime, Murray could be found out in the sunshine with his BBQ, concocting mouth-watering delicacies.

Special thanks to the caring staff at the Kelowna General Hospital and the BC Cancer Agency. In lieu of flowers (allergies), air plants (Google it!) are welcomed, or if friends so desire, donations may be made to The BC Cancer Agency, 399 Royal Ave, Kelowna, BC V1Y 5L3. • Terry (Mandzuk) & Nick Geib says:

    To Lana, Melissa and Ashley; Uncle Dennis & Auntie Helen, Marilyn, Alan, Ron and your families;
    It seems there are few words to express our sympathy for the passing of Murray. Although there was distance geographically between our families, we stayed connected through Facebook and family updates. I will forever cherish my childhood and teenage memories of summer vacations together with our cousins, of family dinners and periodic visits to Baba’s house. Murray always created lots of laughs and found ways to make visiting cousins feel right at home upon entering the door. I hope you know the impact Murray has had on all of us. We will miss him but will remember him forever.

    As I started a new position this week with the Calgary Fire Department, I am unable to make the trip to Kelowna for the funeral. Please know my heart and prayers are with you. Love Terry (Teresa) Mandzuk Geib

  • Donna Ma (Doney) says:

    To Lana and your family, I am very sad to hear of Murray’s passing! I will be praying for you all! Take care and may you find peace in the loving arms of our heavenly Father! – With sympathy from Donna Ma

  • Courtney (Walker) Fath says:

    Lana, Melissa, & Ashley,

    I am deeply sorry for the loss of Murray. I have so many wonderful childhood memories of spending time with your family. My favorite childhood memories of Murray include, his expressive bed time stories, visiting him at Walmart in Saskatoon, and how he’d always lose one of his shoes when he was with my family.
    Sending my thoughts and prayers to you. I wish we lived closer so that my family could be with yours.

    Love from,
    Courtney
