We Remember

MARSHALL, Kathleen Dora

November 28, 1941 — August 22, 2019

A woman who cared
For all she knew;
Her family and friends
And animals too!

Lovingly remembered: wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend.  Kathleen passed away in the early morning on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at the age of 77.  Her beloved daughters Lois and Jane were by her side.  Kathleen was born in Kelowna, BC on November 28, 1941 to pioneers George and Kathleen (née McCarthy) Day.  She is survived by her daughters, her cherished friend Fiona, her twin Colin (Moira) Day, brother Ernest Day, and brother-in-law Gordon (Anne) Marshall, as well as sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  She has gone to join her husband, Elwyn, and family George and Kathleen Day, Art, Max, and Ken Day, Lewis and Adal Marshall, Rex, Fred, and Harold Marshall, and many others.

Kathleen graduated from Rutland High School in 1959 and went on to obtain her Registered Nursing certification from the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC in 1963.  She nursed in Edmonton, AB at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for one year, before marrying in May 1964 and starting the next chapter of her life.  She was a mother, her proudest accomplishment, and an orchardist in Glenmore.  They grew d’Anjou and Bartlett pears, Golden Delicious apples, and other fruit.  As a child, Kathleen loved riding her horse, Cheeta, playing the piano, for which she obtained the highest level of Royal Conservatory standards, and learning her homemaking skills from her mother and grandmother.  Kathleen loved spending time with her family (including her pets), music, cooking, and helping on the orchard.  She was Secretary for the Glenmore chapter of the BC Fruit Grower’s Association, as well as a member of school Parent Advisory Councils.  In later years, her favourite activities were creating art (drawing, painting and colouring), singing and playing the piano with friends, writing stories for the Okanagan Historical Society, and spending time with her dog walking group.

Her family and friends will remember and miss Kathleen’s strong spirit, loving heart and caring nature.  Family wishes to express their thankfulness to those treasured friends and healthcare professionals who treated her with kindness, respect and understanding in her last months.

Kathleen’s life will be celebrated at 9:00 am, Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels, 608 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC.  The family request that in lieu of flowers, her memory be honored by planting a fragrant rose bush in your garden in the spring, and thinking of her when it blooms; by buying BC fruit; or making a donation in her name to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, www.kghfoundation.com,  in support of the cardiac department.
