We Remember

MARTINS, Henry

March 28, 2024 — March 28, 2024

Henry passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, on December 21, 2016.

He is survived by his loving wife Clara of 62 years, children Philip (Sandra), Marlene (Barry) McPherson, Beverly Haak, Pauline (Chris) Robinson; grandchildren Demara, Aaron, Kevin (Laurel), Riley (Noemie), Andrew (Marie), Michael (Shawna), Danelle (Paul), Colin (Carla), Ashley, 16 great grandchildren and brother Gerry (Rose) as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family. Sadly predeceased by his parents Louisa and Henry Martins Sr, sister Florence, brother Rudy, son-in-law Don and great grandson Josiah.

Henry passed on his love of the outdoors to his children, with many memorable camping trips and special Father’s Day fishing trips. He had a love for music and played the trumpet, trombone and harmonica and in his early years played baritone with the Salvation Army Street Band in Vancouver, BC. He had a strong work ethic and was able to retire from the lumber industry after 35 years of service at the young age of 58, giving him more time to do the things he enjoyed: traveling, gardening, bowling, camping and fishing. He was a valued volunteer with the Mennonite Central Committee in Abbotsford for 20 years after retiring and enjoyed growing and donating numerous garden plants, designing bird houses and creating wind chimes for charity. In his later years Henry was diagnosed with Parkinsons and recently moved to Kelowna, together with his wife Clara, to be nearer their 3 daughters, having lived in Abbotsford, BC for almost 50 years. Henry was a long-time member of the Bakerview Mennonite Brethren Church in Abbotsford, BC.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, caregivers and staff at Brandt’s Creek Mews who cared for Henry the past 3 months with kindness, compassion and professionalism. We would also like to say thank you to Dr. Uribe Lima for Henry’s good care over the past months.

We will always keep Henry close to our hearts, with great love. Interment with family is on Friday, January 6 at 11:30 am at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life to be held Friday, January 6, at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. with Pastor Doug Wiebe officiating.
