We Remember

MAYHEW, Alfred Walter

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2  “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Alfred Walter Mayhew on Saturday June 17, 2017 in Kelowna, BC, with his family by his side.

Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Kathleen; daughters: Lorraine, Felicity, Precilla (Noor Jamal) and son Garry (Marcella); siblings Arthur, Eileen and Jenatte; grandchildren: Sean, Theren Jr., Lisa, Michael, Gabrielle, Theresa, Matthew, Farhaan and Kahlilah.

Alfred is pre-deceased by his parents Charles and Lily; brothers George (Liz) and Gordon (Sheila) and loving daughters: Mildred, Nora and Chedra (Theren).

He met and married the love of his life at the tender age of 19.  Together they had 7 children, shared a strong Catholic faith, a profound love for Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary who guided and strengthened them both as they endured life’s tribulations and celebrated life’s joys.  Alfred celebrated the birth of his 9 grandchildren and prayed daily for each of them by name.

We thank God for the gift of this remarkable husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather.  Alfred was known for his unshakable Catholic faith and our lives are forever changed by his witness and example.  We will miss him forever and will continue to keep him in our hearts.

The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Ben Wiese for his care of Dad and also to the amazing team of KGH Palliative Care Nurses who helped us so much.

Prayers will be recited on Wednesday, June 21st at 7:00 pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 22nd at 10:30 am, both at Immaculate Conception Church, 839 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC.   A Graveside Service will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Church towards Masses to be said for souls in purgatory.

Job 1:21 – “Naked I came forth from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall go back there.  The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord!”
