We Remember

MEDEMA, Tina

(nee Jantiena Haasksma)

Tina went to be with her Lord and Saviour on November 21, 2018 at the age of 70 after a short, brave battle with cancer.  She was born on April 23, 1948 in Munnekezijl, The Netherlands.  She was one of ten children and immigrated with her family, from the Netherlands, at the age of three.  Once in Canada, Tina landed in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  She spent her formative years there, then as a young woman moved from coast to coast, finally settling in Kelowna, BC.

Tina could always be counted on for giving a helping hand to many organizations like the Christian Woman’s Club, Toast Masters, Bible studies and other meaningful endeavors.  She always put others’ needs before her own, as exhibited by her various callings as a nurse, childcare provider, children’s camp director, grief counsellor, sponsor, volunteer and, most importantly, a full-time wife, mother and Oma.

Tina loved traveling, especially with Dick.  She had been to almost every continent with Dick on some amazing adventures, but they always gravitated to their favourite place, Kailua Beach, Hawaii.

Tina will be remembered by all that knew her for her quick smile and laughter.  She enjoyed socializing with friends, catching up with family over the phone, playing card games and always seemed to fit in with a group, no matter how big or small.  Tina maintained a close relationship with all ten of her siblings, her many nieces and nephews adored visiting with Auntie Tina.  She had a very sharp sense of humour which helped her through life’s challenges, right to the very end.

Tina will be lovingly remembered by her spouse of 39 years, Dick; her son Leon (Heather); her three daughters, Mary Ellen (Gus), Sheralyn (Mike) and Kristin (Darcy); and her grandchildren: Emily, Gavin, Lauryn, Tyson, Ryan, Kade, Josh and Adeline.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2:30 pm at Kelowna Gospel Fellowship, 3714 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, BC.
