We Remember

MILLER, Doreen Elizabeth

May 13, 1940 — April 29, 2018

Doreen Elizabeth Miller went to join her father and mother and all those who went before her on April 29, 2018 at the age of 77. She is survived by her loving husband James; daughter Michele (Daniel); grand dogs: Baxter, Zoe, Pepper; sisters Nancy, Esther (Norman); brother Ken (Pat). Predeceased by her father John; mother Dora; brother Arnold (Evelyn).

Born in Edmonton in 1940, moving to Kelowna in 2002, she lived a full and happy life with her husband Jim of 58 years, daughter Michele; many sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and more friends who were like family.

She always put everyone else first; cooking, baking and serving everyone her special treats. She wanted to be remembered as ‘The Cabin Girl’ for those who knew her love of Wabamun and Mercoal.

Everyone whose lives she touched, knows her kind and caring ways and sweet sense of humour. She worried more about those she was leaving behind than her own suffering. This extended to her family, friends and medical staff who cared for her. Thank you, Julia, the doctors and staff at the renal clinic, and Dr. Thomasse for her years of care.

We thank those who cared for her in her last days at KGH, especially the staff of the 2 west who showed professionalism, honour and compassion in making her last days comfortable and meaningful.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada www.kidney.ca or the Charity of Choice.

I feel blessed to have had Auntie Doreen as an integral part of my life. My fondest memories as a child always included Auntie Doreen. She always came up with the coolest arts and crafts projects for us to do and didn’t seem to mind playing the music to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang over and over again so we could sing and dance around that lovely teak coffee table of hers. She was there as I moved into adolescence and on into adulthood, offering her sage advice and always leaving me with something new to ponder. She was a great aunt to me and a great, great aunt to Chloe and Arden. Uncle Jim and Michele – know that you are always in my thoughts and my broken heart is reaching to you across the miles. RIP Auntie Dream.

My wife, Debbie, and I are saddened to hear of Doreen’s passing. i visited her 2 summers ago and at that time she was having difficulties with her medical restrictions but was still positive and we had a good visit. I worked with her at the CIL Edmonton Plastics plant (later to become AT Plastics) for many years. Doreen always had a caring attitude and great sense of humor. My family even visited her and Jim at the cabin at Mercoal. Our sincere condolences to Jim and Michel and family, she will surely be missed.
