We Remember

MUNCK, Jorgen Stampe

September 5, 1935 — March 20, 2017

Jorgen Stampe Munck passed away at the age of 81 in West Kelowna, BC. He is survived by his loving wife Lona, daughters Ruth Rob (Ron) and Kari Purvis (Clark), son Erik Munck (Jade) and grandchildren Hannah Guenther (Dave), Erika Rob, Whitney Purvis, Ian Purvis, Vienna Munck, and Brock Munck. He was predeceased by his sister Anna Kuhlman and will be missed by her husband Henry and their children Marika and Carl-Erik.

Jorgen was born on the family farm in Clouston, Saskatchewan to Danish immigrant parents, and grew up in Salmo, BC. He worked in various mines as a driller/blaster in the summers while earning a B.Comm at UBC (1958), and earned his MBA from the University of Washington (1964). Jorgen worked primarily in sales and marketing across Canada from Vancouver to Montreal, and points in between. Prior to retirement, he served in Chilliwack as a returning officer for federal elections. Having a strong belief in social justice and helping others, he was a proud member of Rotary and served on the boards of many community organizations. In his free time, he loved gardening, golfing, wine-making, woodworking, and raising Norwegian Elkhounds. Jorgen and Lona loved to go for drives just to see where the road might take them. He will be remembered as a gentleman with a fine sense of humour and love of stories.

His family thanks all the people at Lakeview Lodge for their excellent care and attention. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Westbank United Church, 3672 Brown Rd, West Kelowna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Danish Lutheran Church in Burnaby or to the BC and Yukon Arthritis Society. “Det er okay, Far. Ve elsker dig.”

    Dear Lona,
It was with shock we read about the passing of Jurgen. We will remember him as a friendly neighbor, often busy in his yard or going for a walk with you. May you find strength in your faith and solace in your family. Sincerly, Marijke and Frans Dullemond, your former neighbors.

  • Herbert Voth says:

    Dear Lona,
We were saddened when reading about the passing of Jorgen in our newspaper yesterday. He was a great friend and colleague (Elections Canada). We will miss his friendship, his ready smile and encouragements. May God comfort and sustain you as you pass through this difficult time. Love, Herb and Virginia Voth

  • Yvonne and Gerry Sandau says:

Dear Lona, We are so sorry to hear of Jorgens passing. Our sincere sympathy to you and your family. When I became a member of the church council Jorgen was the chairman. Oh how I appreciated his wisdom and also his kindness to me the only rookie on council at that time. Life will be different now for you Lona, but with Gods wonderful gift of memory our loved ones remain with us always. May God grant you his peace during this difficult time.

  • Karol Henrotte says:

Dear Lona: I am so sorry to learn from a recent Chilliwack Progress newspaper of your husband Jorgen’s passing.
My sincere sympathies to you and your family.

  • Judy and Charles Friebe says:

    Dear Lona,

We were so sad to hear the news about Jorgen. He was a wonderful neighbour and we have missed you both since you moved from Chilliwack. We shared an interest in gardening and wine-making with Jorgen, often chatting over the fence together. Our thoughts are with you, Lona, that you find peace and comfort with your family. Love from Charles and Judy Friebe
