We Remember

NEWMAN, Geraldine “Dee” Lillian (nee Rogers)

Geraldine Lillian Newman passed away suddenly on January 28th, 2017 at the Kelowna General Hospital.  She was 63 years old.

Geraldine, best known as Dee, was born in Dawson Creek on March 3, 1953, the second daughter born to Alice and Roland Rogers.  After leaving Dawson Creek, Dee lived in Prince Rupert before moving to Peachland in 1968.  She attended The School of Hairdressing in Vernon and worked as a hairdresser for many years.  In 1981, Dee married Earl Newman and moved back to the Peace River Country to live on the original Newman homestead in Baytree, Alberta.  They continued to live there even after Earl retired.

After Earl’s death in 2011, she moved back to the Okanagan to be closer to her sister and they happily shared the last five years together.  She bought a small home in Winfield where she and her doggies settled in.  She was an avid gardner and spent the long summers outside and passed the winters perusing seed catalogues and planning for next summer.  She leaves to mourn her loss, her only sister Pauline Rogers, extended family Phyllis Czaban, Joyce Pfau, Phillip Newman, many nieces and nephews and cousins as well as her “dog family” Cinda and Misty.  She was pre-deceased by her parents Alice and Roland Rogers and her husband Earl Newman.

Interment to be held in Briar Ridge Cemetery at a later time.

Memorial donations may be made to the Okanagan Small Dog Rescue Society, Box 23084, Plaza 33, Kelowna, B.C. V1X 7K7.

Pauline, Phyllis Family & Friends. Its sad to lose someone in death. What helped me the most was prayers and faith in God’s promise at Psalm 34:18 “God is close to the broken heart: he saves those who are crushed in spirit.” For more free comforting scriptures, please visit: http://bit.ly/1K38EFt. God’s Kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for will bring about these wonderful promises. My prayers are with you at this difficult time. If you wish to contact me at: ikeyes@msn.com.

With heavy hearts, we send our sincere condolences regarding Dee’s passing. Words can never express or ease the pain one feels when someone close, leaves prematurely. We all think that there will be time to meet and catch up on things and share our lives. I am so sad that Louise did not get to meet her. Please know that our hearts are with you Polly.
