McCarthy, Edward (2010-07-23)
McCarthy, Edward On July 23, 2010 beloved husband, father, grandfather and pastor, Edward McCarthy (Ted), went to be with his Lord whom he loved and served. Predeceased by Ruth, his wife of fifty years, Ed leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Irene, daughters Vivian (Ray) Foley, Valerie (Wes) Field, Ruth (Lawrence) Hahn, Nola (Don) Renfrew, eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Also feeling his loss are his siblings, Bob (Norma) McCarthy, Ray (Grace) McCarthy, Bernice (Ian) McLellan and Graham Wilson. Ed will be missed by the three daughters who became part of his family when he married Irene in 1993, Joanne (Johnny) Soberlak, Bernie-Jean Worobey and Marilyn (Norm) McComber and their respective families. Ed was born June 8, 1920 in Eston, Saskatchewan. He trained for pastoral ministry at Regina Bible College. He and his wife Ruth ministered in eleven Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Throughout the years Ed’s dry sense of humour served him well. He loved people and had a gift for encouraging others. Leading Bible studies, preaching, visiting and serving as Chaplain at Kelowna General Hospital were activities that Ed enjoyed and pursed with enthusiasm until his recent illness. The family wishes to thank the staff of Kelowna Alliance, Dr. Chamberlain and the care staff at Cottonwoods Rehab Centre for their support and loving care these past three months. A celebration of his life and ministry will be held on Thursday, July 29th at 11:00 am from the Mission Creek Alliance Church, 2091 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 7X1. Gifts in his memory would be appreciated to the Christian and Mission Alliance, work of Heather Hahn (Mexico), c/o Mission Creek Alliance Church (address above).
