We Remember

Osborne, Sonja Anne

November 1, 1943 — August 27, 2017

Born in Elkhorn, Manitoba on November 1, 1943, a daughter of the late Archie and Clara (nee Rasmussen) Young, a longtime resident of Westbank, by way of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Sunday August 27, 2017.

Sonja was predeceased by her husband Dan McRae Osborne and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her dear friend Karl Hoeller of West Kelowna.  She is also predeceased by her beloved sister Elaine Haggerty and great niece Layla Shiber.

Sonja is remembered as a loving and independent mother to Richard (Ginger) of West Kelowna, Randy (Deb) of Calgary, and Rod (Venessa) of Kamloops.  She was a generous and kind grandmother to her five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

She was a dear sister and sister-in-law to Lorraine and Doug Udell (Kingman, Arizona), Richard and Rita Young (Victoria), Tom Haggerty (Kelowna), Allan and Evelyn Osborne (Langford, AB), Maizie and Ken Noto (Brandon, MB) and Kay and Jim Lahoda (Salmon Arm).   She will be deeply missed by numerous nieces, and nephews.

Sonja kept in close contact with many dear friends, a special mention to Pauline, Jackie and Sue.  Here in Westbank, Sonja and Dan operated two small businesses including a sporting goods store and ‘Westside Printing.’  Since moving from Calgary, Dan and Sonja continued to enjoy camping, often travelling throughout the Okanagan.

In the past ten years, Sonja and Karl continued to enjoy the great outdoors by travelling and camping to many places here in British Columbia.  Their travels also took them to Austria with Karl’s family.  This opportunity of a lifetime trip to see parts of Europe and getting to attend a wedding that took place in a castle was a highlight for Sonja.

Honoring Sonja’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the West Kelowna Seniors’ Centre in West Kelowna from 10am to 12 noon.

Sonja’s family extends sincere gratitude to the many friends, and neighbours who have been so supportive during this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

“Grandmother, Mother, sister, and friend, you will be truly missed by all, but the strong relationships and memories you created will remain in our hearts forever.”
