We Remember

PAWLIK, Dianne Sandra

November 19, 1945 — July 4, 2016

Dianne passed away peacefully on July 4, 2016 at the age of 70. She is survived by her daughter Danielle (Marty) Thompson of Kelowna; grandsons Kane, Noah and Lucas; brothers Garry (Pat) Evans of Calgary, Cory (Doris) Evans of Winnipeg and Murray Evans (Lei Anne Sharratt) of Onanole; nieces and nephews Kristen (Blake) Howe, Craig (Katy) Evans, Nancy Evans (Bill Rodger) and Jordan Evans; and great niece and nephews Dusty (Kristen), Harper (Craig), Jack (Craig) and Henry (Craig).  She was predeceased by her loving husband Nicholas Pawlik, and parents Stanley and Violet Evans.

Dianne was born on November 19, 1945 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She lived most of her young years in Brandon, Manitoba and had many stories to tell of her life there.  Once leaving home, she lived in various parts of Canada, but after moving to the Yukon she fell in love with the North.  On February 14, 1981 she married the love of her life, Nick, in High Level, Alberta with her daughter by their side.  Together they built their home in Rocky Lane, Alberta where they lived their lives together.

Dianne was well loved by her family and close friends and liked by all who had the pleasure of meeting her. She will be remembered for her love of plants, quilting, knitting and all crafty projects she had going on.  She never missed an opportunity to welcome a new family member with a hand-knit Christmas stocking.  She always had a big garden and her summers were filled with canning and preserving as much as she could.  She loved picking berries and would turn them into the most delicious pies.  Cabbage rolls and buttery soft shortbread cookies were also perfected by Dianne, who was an amazing cook.

Dianne, together with Nick, was instrumental in getting the High Riders 4-H Multi Club up and running in Rocky Lane, Alberta. She enjoyed her participation in the club and loved getting to know each and every one of the participants.  For years after her immediate involvement was done, she still volunteered her time to help out when needed.

Dianne and Nick loved camping and fishing. Their favorite place to go was Fort Providence, Northwest Territories where they would sit together on the banks of the Mackenzie River for hours to see who could catch the biggest fish.  They travelled the Alaska Highway one year with their 5th wheel, a trip she always remembered fondly and talked about doing again.  After she retired from the Mackenzie County in northern Alberta, she went on many travel adventures with great friends to destinations including Ireland, a Celtic Cruise and Cabo.  She enjoyed these trips and cherished the memories they gave her.

Dianne moved to Kelowna, British Columbia in July of 2014 to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law and three grandsons. Although her time here was short, her family will always cherish the times they were able to spend with Dianne at family dinners and birthday parties.  She met a few close friends while in Kelowna, who will miss her dearly as well.

A funeral service will be held on July 15, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Springfield Funeral Home in Kelowna, British Columbia. Interment will follow at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.

It is with sadness to hear about Auntie Dianne. Our family too, received a knitted hat and sweater when our first was born (so warm, I overheated our little Vienna once by accident 🙂
I still think of her when I use the Tupperware she gave me long long ago when I was starting out on my own. So sorry for your families loss. Thoughts and prayers to you all.
