We Remember

PAWLUK, Archie (Wolodymyr)

Passed away peacefully with his wife Elsie and great nephew and niece Morris and Karyn by his side on Friday, March 10th, 2017 at the age of 94 years, 4 days short of his 95th Birthday. He was born in Dauphin, MB. in 1922 to Emil and Mary (Buchy) Pawluk. He was raised on the farm in Pine River, MB. and remained there for 22 years. During WWII, he worked at Toporowsky’s Flour Mill and later returned home to help on the family farm as his Dad was ill. In March 1944, Archie along with his family moved to Gilbert Plains, MB. where he farmed with his brothers south of town.

On October 6, 1949 Archie married Elsie Stadnyk. They farmed 12 miles north of Gilbert Plains, till they moved into town 1953 where Archie worked as a mechanic. He also built a couple homes for his family. They moved to Dauphin, MB. in 1964 where he built another home for his family and at the same time worked as a mechanic. In 1968 they moved to Brandon, MB. where he once again built a home and worked as a carpenter. Their next move took them to Thompson, MB. in 1969 where he continued to work as a carpenter. Their sight was set for a move back to Brandon, MB. in 1972. A couple years later they moved to Ft. McMurray, AB., where Archie continued to work in the carpentry field as a finishing carpenter. There comes a time for retirement, in 1985, they packed up and retired to Kelowna, BC. Throughout Archie’s years he was never afraid to try numerous crafts from knitting, embroidery, cross stitching, painting “pysanky” and woodworking to just mention a few. In everything he attempted, he was very particular and meticulous as it had to be done with precision. His children and grandchildren are very fortunate to be the holders of many of his crafts which will be cherished for many years and passed down to future generations. Archie’s love for music was portrayed by the many musical instruments he played. He also sang in church choirs and enjoyed and participated in a Ukrainian Dance Group. With his carpentry skills and love of music, he started to build a set up dulcimers, and unfortunately was not able to complete. His hobbies also included fishing and hunting.

He was predeceased by his parents Emil and Mary Pawluk, brothers Edward, Ernie, Elmer, Anthony, Mike and sister Helen Kulbaba. He is survived by wife Elsie of 67 years, son Michael (Mike) and Jenny of Westlock, AB, daughter Elizabeth (Liz) and Al Kozakowski of Thompson, MB, granddaughter Pamela (Pawluk) and David Lyttle of Onoway, AB, Jared and Natasha Pawluk of Stony Plain, AB, great grandchildren: Shjon and Abigale-Jadyn Lyttle of Onoway, AB and Blake and Zachary Pawluk of Stony Plain, AB. He is also survived by a special great nephew and niece Morris and Karyn Showdra, Kelowna, BC and their family Brittany, Jenna and Charlie(Chuck), as well as many nieces and nephews.
