We Remember
PETER, Gordon Kurt
—
GORDON KURT PETER came to the end of his cancer journey, complicated by his blood disorder (myelodysplasia). Surrounded by his loving family he graduated to Heaven on August 11, 2015 at the age of 54. He is survived by the love of his life Helga and three children: Sven (Rebecca Gray) of Vancouver, Karl, Lydia, his Parents Eduard and Agnes of Lake Country, his three brothers: Ron (Lori) of Calgary, Frank and David (Anita) of Lake Country, nieces and nephews: David Kolenich, Katherine (Nathan) Hind, Kendra, Jeremy and Hannah Peter, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Gordon was a gentle caring soul with a generous smile, a man of many talents. During his years he was an artist, soap stone sculptor, landscaper, General Contractor, homebuilder, entrepreneur and healer. He enjoyed building beautiful water features, creating unique home landscapes, time with his family and friends, house boating, camping and hiking, travelling and of course his favorite game of Scrabble.
Gordon was also part of a special Christian group of FRIENDS that met bi-weekly for over 20 years! Gordon participated in numerous church activities and committees at Christ Lutheran Church. He was Chairman, Sunday School Teacher and organizer of many Church functions like Oktoberfest and Christkindl Christmas Market.
He was born in Winnipeg, MB and lived in various communities within the area. His family moved to Kelowna in 1979 where he attended College in the business program. One of his first jobs was for Burnett’s Nursery where his love of landscaping was born. He travelled to Lake Louise, AB and began his adventure as an artist. In 1995 he returned to the Okanagan, and met his future wife Helga and her two sons, Sven and Karl. They were married March 16th, 1996. On August 16th the following year they became proud parents of Lydia. Later on G&H Enterprises was created and Gordon decided to build two beautiful homes.
Due to an unfortunate diagnosis of a blood disorder his building career was short lived. His focus changed from building to the healing arts which he whole-heartedly pursued with a passion. He became the President of the Healing Arts Association of the Okanagan (HAAO). During this time his travels took him to Brazil, Alaska, Hawaii, Montreal, LA, Vancouver Island and Alberta for training and retreats.
In August of last year he began his Cancer journey and bravely faced this last chapter of his life knowing God was in control. His last few days were full of surprises, laughter, and many tears. He looked at all of his loving family in the room and assured us all that “everything is OK!” with bright eyes, the biggest smile and a thumbs up!
A Memorial service will held on Monday, August 24th at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church – 2091 Gordon Drive with Pastor Wallace Loge officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief and/or make an appointment to donate blood. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com, 250-860-7077.

Our sincere sympathies are reaching out to you Helga. I have great memories working with Gordon at Burnett’s. I will never forget that I bought my “first couch and chair” from his parents – it was avocado green!! ( it was the 80’s after all) Take care – Love from Sheri and Jim Keller
Dear Helga, Lydia and Family, We are so profoundly sorry to hear about Gord’s passing. Thinking of you all. Sincerely, Larry, Wendy, Tasia and Landon Serko
My thoughts and prayers are with you Helga. God bless you and your family.
Ruth and I want to reach out to you at this time of shock and sorrow which we, and many others, are experiencing now. I was the clergyperson who officiated at your wedding and also baptized Lydia into the family of God. Our remembrances of Gordon, as well as of you, Helga, Lydia and the entire family , bring back warm memories. Be assured that God will hold you close to his heart now at this time of grief and into the days and years which spread out before us all.
In Christ,
Pastor James and Ruth Buenting
