Hilde Maria Platz was born Dec 8, 1928 in Strodenitz, Czechoslovakia. Hilde passed away peacefully in Kelowna, BC on July 30, 2018 at the age of 89 after battling dementia for several years. Hilde is predeceased by her loving husband Manfred of Kitchener, ON; her son Bernhard in Duluth, GA; and her sisters Trude and Mitzi in Germany.

Hilde is survived by her daughter, Evelyne MacMillan; son-in-law John MacMillan and daughter-in-law Marguerite Camus-Platz.

Hilde grew up in Germany during the war years and worked as a dental nurse. In 1954 the couple emigrated to Canada living in Toronto, Hamilton and Kitchener, ON.

Hilde was a consummate cook, baker and meticulous housekeeper: she was queen of her castle. She and Manfred were avid world travelers and journeyed to distant places on all continents. Bowling was a passionate activity for many decades in Hamilton and Kitchener. During the 60’s and 70’s Hilde was known as the Avon lady and she enjoyed meeting the ladies in the neighbourhood. Sewing and all manner of handcrafts were Hilde’s many talents. She and Manfred square danced for many years. Hilde retained her German heritage and was a long-time valued member of the Germania Club ladies group in Hamilton serving in many capacities including president.

In 2017 Hilde moved to Kelowna to be near her daughter Evelyne.

Thanks and gratitude to the wonderful Staff at Orchard Manor for their compassion and professional support and care.

  • Annemarie Kiss says:

On behalf of the Ladies of the Germania Club Frauenverein, we extend to you are most heartfelt condolences. Hilde was an active member for 47 years and will be sorely missed by us all. We look back on many fond memories and smile as we recall all the fun times we shared. She was very much a lady and always packed several outfits with matching jewelry to our annual cottage trip and came prepared with her 3 nickels for our evening card game of 31. We enjoyed listening to her stories of her travels with her beloved husband. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • Marguerite Camus-Platz says:

Sweet memories will always stay tucked in my heart. Love never ends. Thoughts and prayers are with you, Evelyne at this sad time.
