We Remember

PRIEBE, Irma

Irma passed away January 25, 2017 at the age of 84. Irma was born in Maraslienfeld, Bessarabia, Romania in 1932. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Harold) Schock of Kelowna; son Daniel (Selina) Priebe of Calgary, AB; grandchildren Isaac Schock, Eli Schock, Lance Priebe, Lukas Priebe; sisters Lilli Weger of Germany, Alma Rapp of USA; brothers Artur Hehr of Germany, Bruno Hehr of Australia, Erwin Hehr of Germany, Emil Hehr of Germany; Reinhold Klinger of West Kelowna, BC and many nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany.  Predeceased by her husband Alfred Priebe, and her brother Oskar Hehr of Germany.

Irma and her husband immigrated to Calgary, AB from Germany in 1960. There, they raised two children, Irma devoting herself to the home before retiring to Kelowna, BC.  Irma continued to have a strong relationship with those left behind in Germany until she passed away.

Irma’s greatest accomplishment was raising her family; keeping an orderly home, providing for her children’s and husband’s needs in addition to those of her grandchildren. Irma was an excellent cook and an outstanding baker.  She was an avid gardener and enjoyed needlework in her spare time.  She stayed fit by swimming and walking and could be seen walking with the help of her bright yellow walker near her most recent home in Sandalwood Retirement Resort.  She was always feisty and passionate.

In her younger years, Irma was quick to volunteer at her children’s schools when needed. She loved animals, especially dogs, and was loved and respected by all who knew her.  Irma will never be forgotten.

    • Dan Priebe says:

      Hello Harry,
Where has the time gone? Its been 35+ years since our parents used to get together either at your old place on Fountain Road or my old home on 51st Ave. Man I used to look forward to when they all got together on those occasional Friday or Saturday evenings allowing your brother and I to hang out and just be kids! Thank you for you and your family’s condolences. The Schock Family and my family do appreciate it.

  • Joerg Weger says:

  • Josef Seifriedsberger says:

Dear Stephanie & Daniel and Extended Family; Memory takes me back to the beginning of our friendship in 1962 and becoming neighbors one year later. Building our first houses together and sharing the challenges that life sometimes brings. I’m so glad that your Mom and I had a long talk over the phone last Summer. The memories lingers on in our hearts. Joe Seifriedsberger

    • Dan Priebe says:

Thank you Joe. I have fond memories of you and Marianne as well when we lived beside you. I still remember mowing your lawn as a teenager when you moved to Lakeview, and breaking your bird bath in your backyard (sorry!). I also remember your support that Saturday in January of 1980 when you drove my Mother, Stephanie, and I to the Holy Cross Hospital. Thank you for your compassion back then, and thank you for your condolences today.
