We Remember

REID, Trudy Lorraine

January 27, 1960 — December 18, 2017

Trudy Lorraine Reid died peacefully in her sleep at Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 57. She is survived by her daughters; Dawn Charette(Kyle), and Jennifer Keen (Arturs), sister; Jody Reid Obalek (Kevin), brother; Dale Reid (Michelle) and her many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Phillip and Lorraine Reid.

Trudy’s kind heart, wild sense of humor and natural beauty made it impossible not to love her. Her infectious laugh, beautiful smile and love of life will live on with her friends and family forever.

Her family is at peace knowing that Trudy is finally able to run with the wind in her hair, and spend the rest of her eternity with her mother and father whom she loved dearly. Her friends will always miss their Trudilicious/Trixie, and her daughters will always miss their Little Baby Mama.

Trudy was my “go to” person at Interior Savings for many years starting in the late 90’s. I have never stopped missing her bright cheery ways, her warmth and care, and the rapport and laughter whenever we got together. I always felt uplifted after a visit with Trudy. My deepest sympathy is with her family, and rest assured, I will never forget her…….

I am so sorry to hear of Trudy’s passing. Though we were cousins we never met in person but she helped me through some hard times at the beginning of my mother’s (her Dad’s sister) memory loss. I was truly grateful for all the love and support she gave me in such a difficult time when I felt alone. She obviously had a big heart to help others. To her family please take comfort in the the knowledge she is resting in peace with no pain.

  • Jennifer Keen says:

    My mom,
she wasn’t just my best friend or my momma, she was my everything. I love her more then I’ll ever find words to describe and at times more then I was able to show, I’ll never love anyone more.
My hurt and pain mostly comes from her loss, her struggle and her pain.
How I see my mother is as a wise, independent and extremely loving person who wore her emotions on her sleeve. She genuinely cared so much about other people.
She gave me and my sister a heart that is both a gift and a curse.

The types of memories I have of her are, when she was trying on clothes and knocked her coffee into her boot upside down and then proceeded to walk out of the store with a wet squish sound while laughing so hard we both had tears running down our faces. Those things happened often to my mom and she always responded in laughter…
I appreciate all the sympathy people show us all for the loss of her but most of my pain comes from how she was forced to live over the last few years, and how it robbed her of her privacy and independent stubborn nature. She never asked for help as she raised us two brats on her own, in fact I remember she couldn’t figure out how to use a tree stand so she’d rather lean the tree against the wall then ask for assistance, I went over to the neighbors and got help against her wishes but she always appreciated afterwards…

Over the last few days I have grieved because she is gone and I can’t call her to get advice on how to deal with this, because she always knew what to say to help me find peace in every scary moment of my life. My mother never judged me or my sister for our stupid choices as an example when I was about 5 years old I broke a bowl and proceeded to cry over it. She found me crying and seen what I was upset about then simply explained “it’s not about the mistakes you make, it’s about what you do to fix them” she showed me by getting the broom and letting me sweep it up that I took ownership of my mistake and did the best I could to make it better and that is all you can do.

Yes I’m devastated from loosing my beautiful mother and best friend but I’m mostly heartbroken from what she lost, her life.

So I’ve decided out of respect for her courage and strength that I can’t feel sorry for myself and I won’t let her struggle be my sad story.
What happened to her wasn’t fair and I’ll never have the slightest clue how hard that was.

I’m going tell her daily how much I love her and how beautiful she is, while remembering her the way she wanted to be and was.

I’m sorry mom this happened to you, you never ever deserved anything like this.
You are completely perfect and incredibly beautiful!
I love you my special little tiny baby momma. So cute!! XOXO

“DAWN GET IN HERE RIGHT NOW” it was 1997 and we were lovely young women-and apparently LOUDtoo. Probably watched SNL and then thought hey let’s go play at the park! So as we in our great wisdom began to swing and recreate our midnight matinee of “ Mr Dictonary” and “Van down by the River” which to us was pure genius and great fun. Poor Trudy lay in her warm bed across the street hearing her eldest daughter and partner in crime budding their acting careers! I guess our show was just to much, for all I remember was hearing the voice from the second floor of the townhouse requesting our presence, IMMIDETLYthe show was over for the night, and we ran back inside to our only “fan”. Trudy was always mom she was never the parent who was your friend for as girls we, you needed that, she was a good role model showing you a healthy lifestyle( eating quino before it was all the hippy rage) never smoking( which never stuck)and keeping her head down to accomplish goals and her head up to walk as a woman should beautiful strong and proud! And as you aged then it was time for a mom to be a friend! You three are blessed to have had each other! Love love love love sent to you both and Kyle. Trudy is a legend now!

  • Julie Tross says:

A true friend is one who never leaves your heart, even if they leave your life for a while. Even after years apart, you pick up with them right where you left off. This was my friend Trudy. She was my childhood friend. My last conversation with her, she told me to remember her the way she was. And her fondest memory was me trying to get her to tan…it never worked. 🙂 I will never forget you my friend. Love you always Julie

  • Mycke Senejuste says:

Even though I am alive, my heart has stopped beating. Even though I am breathing, my body is suffocating. Even though I still care, I can’t bear any longer that you’re not there. I miss you Trudy!!
My Trudy was the most beautiful person I had ever met, both inside and out. She always made people happy around her. It is a big loss for all those who did not get to experience her presence. As for the others, they will uncompromisingly miss her. May her soul rest in peace.

  • Fran Heyming says:

It is heartbreaking to let go of such a kind, fun loving soul. Many a good time shared when we worked together at the Credit Union. My condolences to Trudy’ s daughters and family. She will continue to live on in our memories that we will share and the laughter that she brought to us was such a gift. Truly a strong and wonderful lady. We will miss you.

  • Louise boden says:
