We Remember

SCHOCK, Albert

February 25, 1925 — November 12, 2017

Albert Schock was born on February 25, 1925 in Borodino, Bessarabia.  When he was 2 years old, his parents, Jacob and Emma set out to seek a better fortune in Canada.  He was such a frail child that he was not expected to make the trip.  He never looked back.

During his lifetime he was a farmer, logger, truck driver, sheet metal worker and rock crusher operator.  He worked very hard at everything he set his hand to do and always did it with a sense of pride, confidence and excellence.  Despite these varied occupations, he would have said his life’s work was defined and fulfilled by the years he worked at the Kelowna Gospel Mission.  These were the stories he always told:  of lives changed, the words of Jesus being studied, hope being given, love being shared and of the men who came back to say, “Thank you.”

We will all miss his quiet and gentle ways.   We were touched by his character, defined by faith, hope and love.  We will miss his joyful spirit and beautiful smile.  We have been so blessed to have him in our lives.

Albert Schock went to be with his Lord and Saviour on November 12, 2017 at the age of 92.   He is survived by his daughters Marion Nicoll (Bruce) of Regina and Brenda Hadiken (Derwin) of Regina; son Robert (Grace) of Surrey; and son-in-law Peter Melanson.  He leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Nathan, Eryn, Nicholas, Carley, Jonathan, Jamie, Danielle, David, Haidyn and Keagan; and 11 great grandchildren: River, Zacchaeus, Amos, Marie, Senan, Bennett, Jorren, Seraiah, Aliah, Josiah and Kseniah.  He is also survived by his sisters Anna DeGoutiere and Helene Schock.  He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Emma, brother Robert in infancy, sister Hilda, daughter Linda and by the love of his life, wife Gertrude.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Mission Creek Alliance Church, 2091 Springfield Road, Kelowna.   A visitation will be held prior to the service at 12:00 noon at the church.

Flowers are gratefully declined.  Memorial donations can be made to the Kelowna Gospel Mission, www.kelownagospelmission.ca.
