SCOTT, Lawrence

June 30, 1922 — January 22, 2017

Lawrence Scott is survived by: Dorothy his wife of 64 years, Daughters: Linda (Mervyn) Kovach, Kathleen (Richard) Parr, Sons: Ken (Donna) Scott, Philip (Sharon) Scott. Sister: Doreen Forrest. Grandchildren: Katrina (David), Tyler, Melissa, Rylan, Kyle and David and Great grandchildren: Stirling and Madison and many nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his parents: Alfred John (Jack) Scott and Edith Annie Scott.

Lawrence was born in Kelowna General Hospital. He had many allergies and was not a healthy child.   His dedicated parents rubbed warm olive oil on his skin and fed him hourly with an eye dropper, but not much stayed down.  He managed to survive for 94 years.  Lawrence lived on the family farm in the Ellison District where over the years dairy cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, sheep and rabbits were raised.

Milking cows keeps you tied to the farm. The cows were sold in 1960’s and he went to work for Kelowna Ranches, following that job with 13 years as a janitor for Jacobsen Pontiac Buick.  Retirement brought trips to England, Belgium, Germany and many places in Western Canada.  He now had time for lots of gardening, often with more produce than Dorothy wanted to deal with! He won many ribbons at local Fall Fairs for his pumpkins, squash and other produce.

Lawrence enjoyed cycling when the roads were good and cross-country skiing in the winter. Always a kid at heart, Lawrence enjoyed anything involving trains from HO to full size and playing with his grandchildren.

Lawrence was a member of the BC Dragoons during the Second World War.

Lawrence and Dorothy were members of the Okanagan Chapter of the Vintage Car Club of Canada for 32 years.

Lawrence spent 94 years on the family farm in the Ellison District before moving to Missionwood Retirement Resort in July 2016.

A Celebration of Lawrence’s Life will be held at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Rd., Kelowna on February 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kelowna SPCA or the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.

    I was so saddened to hear of Lawrence’s passing. Eric and I so enjoyed his regular visits when we lived in Ellison. Lawrence always had a story to tell us with a smile on his face. My heart goes out to you Dorothy and your family. Hold on the good memories you have of your times together. Lawrence is watching over you guys and will get you through this. Such a good friend he was to us. I will truly miss him.

    So sorry to hear of Lawrence’s passing. He went to school with my mother, Frances Spalek (nee Spencer) in Ellison. Such a jovial man whenever you met him. Our prayers are with you, Dorothy,and your family. From Kay Hunter.

    Our heartfelt condolences to Linda Dorothy and all the family at this sad farewell. His was a life well lived and much to celebrate.

    I don’t have photos to share but there are so many in my mind of past visits to the farm and your grandparents starting and 1944 Christmas. The coyotes howling, the magnificent stars in the sky. Later years were visited in spring. the scent of lilacs all down the lane.

    Many years later to Dorothy and Lawrence and the wonderful smells of cooking and baking.

    Most of all the good humour of Lawrence and his mother and the great hospitality of all the family members of the “Scott Families”.
