We Remember

SYMONDS, John Percy

March 23, 1922 – June 23, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John/Dad, cherished Husband, Father, Brother and Friend. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Anne, Sister Margaret, daughter Shireen (husband, Rod), two sons, Michael, and James (partner, Laureen). Step daughters Teri (grandchildren Gerrett, and Maya) and Cheryl, (Grandchildren Trisha, and Kyle).  John was predeceased by his first wife Margaret, Brother Alan, and Nephew Hugh. Born at Hall Green, Birmingham, England, John joined the Fleet Air Arm as a Telegraphist  Air Gunner (TAG) at the onset of WW II. In 1947 he immigrated to Canada, and worked at various Labour jobs in Ontario. He then ventured west to Alberta’s immerging oil and Gas industry, working in the Geophysical Seismic sector for the next 30+ years and traveling worldwide with the work.  During this time he took work breaks as owner/operator of a Gas station/Motel in Peachland, and owner operator of a Private Rest Home in Salmon Arm, all the while raising a Family. Retiring to Kelowna in the early 80’s, John was widowed in 1989, and continued to reside in Kelowna.

John then met Anne, they married, and spent the next 20+ years enjoying travelling, gardening, family, entertaining Friends, and Okanagan life.  John will always be remembered for his admirable courage, great strength, and everlasting smile.  John’s family is grateful for the support of many friends during the past couple of years.
