We Remember

TOMECKO, Theodore George (Ted)

Passed away on July 10, 2015, at the age of 84. He is survived by his loving wife Fran, two daughters, both of Ottawa: Jacqueline (Murray) Turnbull; Patty (Al) Ewing, grandsons, Ryan and Matthew Ewing; and a sister, Kathleen of Winnipeg. Predeceased by his parents, Steven and Ann; sisters, Geraldine and Georgina and brothers, Gerald and Wilbur. Ted was born in Lipton, Saskatchewan on December 28, 1930. He worked on the family farm for a number of years before embarking on a career in the RCMP. He was posted at Viking, Alberta; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Thunder Bay and Ottawa, Ontario. Following his retirement in 1988, Ted and Fran settled in Kelowna and were dedicated parishioners of St. Charles Garnier Catholic Church. Ted was proud of his time spent with the Knights of Columbus choir. He especially enjoyed bringing the joy of song to those in retirement homes. In earlier years dad took pleasure in visiting the family farm in Lipton during summer holidays and stopping to fish at the “Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions” island retreat on Lake of the Woods. Our family is forever grateful for the outstanding care dad received from the staff at Sutherland Hills Rest Home and to Dr. Joshua who looked after dad throughout his illness. Prayers will be held in the Chapel at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, on Wednesday July 15th at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Garnier Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna on Thursday July 16th at 10:30 a.m. with reception to follow. • Richard Mantyak says:

It was a shock to see Ted’s obituary in Regina Leader Post this morning (15th). I’m sorry for your loss. As a younger cousin of Ted I have fond memories of him especially the years he spent on the farm. We had a chance to visit with him and Fran at our sister Ann’s funeral in Kamloops in 2009 and again at his brothers funeral in Regina. To Fran and Ted’s family I extend my sincere condolences. Sincerely, Richard.

  • Peter and Verena Trill says:

We are new family to the Hunter/Radwanski “clan” through our daughter Helen’s marriage to Kevin Hunter. At their wedding reception, Ted, with his private words, made us feel immediately most welcome to the family circle. We will remember his kind and sensitive thoughts always.

  • Dianne Hopkie says:

    Jackie, Patty & Auntie Fran,
I was sorry to hear about Uncle Ted’s passing. The last time I saw him was in 2010 when he & Auntie Georgina came to Regina for Dad’s funeral and I remember having a good visit with him then. Growing up we always enjoyed visits from Uncle Ted. May you find comfort knowing that he is at peace.
    Dianne Hopkie (nee Tomecko)

  • Lawrence Mantyak says:

Although Ted and I were cousins, I did not know him very well because of the age difference. I did get to see him in Kelowna when I lived there and I also saw the ‘house on the mountain’ that he was proud of. It is always with sadness when I here of another one of the family passing and I pass on my condolences and sadness to Fran and to Ted’s daughters, whom I never met.

  • Lori Ross says:

Dear, Fran, Jackie, pattie, and family, we are sorry to hear of your loss.
Our thoughts are with you at this time.

    Mer, Lori, Kyle, Marc.

  • Wendy Kilpatrick says:

My heartfelt condolences on the passing of your Dad. It’s never easy losing a loved one. However, we can gain some comfort from John 5:28-29 which says, “Do not be amazed at this, all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” Remember the Bible story, when Jesus resurrected Lazarus? Where did he resurrect Lazarus to? To Heaven? No, right back where he came from, the earth. So, you will see your Dad again when Jesus resurrects all those in the memorial tombs (in the New System), right back here on the earth. This is a promise from God, and God cannot lie. Lazarus’ resurrection was a ‘preview’ of what Jesus will do on a ‘Grand Scale’ in the New System.
Your friend across the hall from the RCMP Archives.

  • Tim Tomecko says:

I just learned today about Uncle Ted. I still remember being Ring Bearer at his wedding. I even had my own RCMP uniform to wear, such a long time ago. I will miss him…
