We Remember

TSE, Ming Sang

September 26, 1929 — November 23, 2017

At the age of 88, Ming Tse passed away peacefully in his sleep.  He was born and raised in Canton China and at the age of 25 married Voya Kwan.  Due to the Mao Tse Tung communist revolution in which the opposition was being purged and the Tse family became political targets, Ming and Voya boarded a ship and abandoned their existing life and future in China to create a new life and future for all of us.

Like many immigrants coming to Canada in the post world war. Ming had to abandon his career in China and find other ways to support his family.  Ming could no longer pursue his teaching career in Lethbridge and went to work in the family restaurant business (Lotus Inn) where he and Voya successfully raised their 6 children.  They worked tirelessly alongside Voya’s father Zeke, mother (Woo Ken) and brother (Wayne) and their 3 children (Joni, Archie and Lorraine) for 25 plus years.

Ming and Voya also sponsored and supported his parents, his siblings and their families to immigrate to Canada.  Parents: Chuen Ben, Wai Fong Tse; brother: Kent, Carol, Sam, Eddy, Shirley, Linda Tse; brother: Christopher and Theresa Tse; Sister: Lany, Bak Hon, Teresa, Magdalene, Peter and Lucy Woo.

Ming chose to live simply.  He was devoted to his family and was a kind and gentle soul.  He would tell you if you looked good or not and whether your cooking was okay or not.  He loved to cook for his family.  His love for food was second to none.  He enjoyed watching all sports.   He was always very appreciative to anyone who helped him in anyway and he would go out of his way to thank them.  He was most proud of the fact that all his kids and grandkids were okay and had made good lives for themselves in Canada.

In 2015, Ming’s kidneys started to fail him and he began daily peritoneal dialysis.  Being fiercely independent all his life, daily dialysis was a challenge of which he met head on.  After a bout with pneumonia in November 2017 and having difficulties being able to eat (his favourite pastime), he made the courageous decision to end his daily dialysis on November 17, 2017.

He lived his life with unparalleled devotion to his family, so they could all have the best opportunities for a better life.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered for the sacrifices he made especially by his children:  Kellie (Jim), Natalie (Ron), Andrew (Teresa), Carson (Min Hua), Diane (Bruce), Janet (Cam); Grandchildren: Ryan (Brooke), Jeri (Dave), Vanessa (Mike), Elisha (Cam), Russell (Kira), Shelby, Damon, Kiki, Hunter, Jessica, Jaclyn (Steve), Blake (Eden), Tanner (Lauren); great grandchildren: Bryn, Sebastian, Xavier, Ava, Isabella.

He was predeceased by his wife Voya, brother Kent and Carol Tse, brother in law Bak Hon Woo.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a Memorial Service on December 11, 2017 at Hawkwood Community Centre in Calgary Alberta at 1:30 PM.
