TSUBOUCHI, Kenji

May 27, 1933 — October 9, 2017

It is with profound sadness the family of Kenji Tsubouchi announces his sudden passing on October 9, 2017 at the age of 84.

Ken was born on May 27, 1933 to Hyakuzo and Ume Tsubouchi in Duncan, BC.  In 1957, Ken married the love of his life Kay Mitsunaga in Fort William (Thunder Bay, ON), recently celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.  Together they raised two sons, Terry and Kelly, instilling a strong work ethic in both of their children.

Ken worked for Cancar for 25 years and then he and Kay relocated to Kelowna, BC in January of 1987 as he took a position with Western Star, retiring in 1997.

Throughout his life, Ken enjoyed sports, particularly golfing at Sunset Ranch from its opening day.

Ken was predeceased by his parents Hyakuzo and Umenyiora Tsubouchi, in laws Hediki and Mitsuye Mitsunaga, siblings Kiyoshi Thomas and Eiji Tsubouchi.

Left to mourn his loss are his wife Kay, his children Terry (Ivana) and Kelly (Cathy), grandchildren Amanda and Collin, siblings Pat Ioi, Nobu Smart, Sets Oda and sister-in-law Dorothy Tsubouchi.   He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Chuck and Kathy Eggli, retired nurse Julie Daniels, Kelowna EMS, Donna Shaw and Tami Quan for their support in Mom’s time of need.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 16, 2017 at 10:00 am at Springfield Funeral Home, Kelowna BC. In lieu of flowers, Ken had requested donation be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation, www.heartandstroke.ca.

    Stan & I met Ken at Sunset Ranch golf course. He welcomed us to the golf course and always had smiles and a friendly greeting.
    We have missed him this past year at the course but have seen him downtown a few times.
    Ken, you were a true gentleman with a friendly disposition.

    I am very sorry to hear of Ken’s passing. Ken was my first boss. He hired me as a computer programmer at CanCar, after I graduated from Confederation College.
    He was a kind man. He smiled often.

    Unfortunately I did not know Ken for very long. I was able to play golf with him several times and each occasion was an enjoyable experience. What a fine gentleman he was. It was my good fortune to have met him.
