We Remember
VICKERS, Robert “Allen”
August 28, 1935 — February 5, 2016
To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.
Allen passed away very peacefully with his family by his side in Kelowna on February 5, 2016 at the age of 80, after a courageous battle with cancer. Allen is survived by his loving wife Marlene of 56 years, son Rob, (Angela) Vickers and their children Malia, Alexis, Baillie and Dustin, daughter Diana, (Cameron) Lazoruk, and their children Greg, Bradley, and Kristen, his sisters Kay Terkelsen and Gloria McFarlane, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Allen, a long time resident of Kelowna, was born in Grand Prairie and became a successful business man and farmer, working in the Okanagan for more than 30 years. After retirement he enjoyed the winters hiking and golfing with Marlene and his many friends in Palm Springs, and was fortunate to spend the summers fulfilling a dream of attending to a friend’s horse ranch, as well as fishing, gardening, and grouse and geese hunting in areas of BC and Northern Alberta.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the care givers at The Central Okanagan Hospice House for their endless compassion and support, and a special thank you to Bryan and Jean.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Allen’s memory either to The Central Okanagan Hospice House, or to a charity of your choice.
A gathering with family and friends to celebrate Allen’s life will be held at on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. Dear Marlene and Family,
We are extremely saddened about Al’s passing. In the relatively short time you were at Gallaghers you both were among our favourite people. Al was a true gentleman–kind, generous and very thoughtful. He is greatly missed and will not be forgotten. Our deepest condolences and affection.
Marlene, our condolences to you and yours on Al’s passing. It was March 1958 that I first met Al. You can’t help wonder at how quickly the years go by. He was a great friend and will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences, Marlene….Ed & Fay Watson
To Marlene & Family,
We were so very sad to learn of Allen’s passing.
We have fond memories of visits with you both in Palm Springs.
Our deepest regards to you & your family,
Ned & Jackie Stewart
Marlene and family,
Our sincere condolences from our family . Al was always in our court when we first started out in the furniture biz. We have great memories of our days together.
best,
Doug and Sandi Wasserman
Auntie Marlene, Rob, Diane and families. Of course it is with great sadness in the death of Uncle Allen. Many fond memories of our families gathering. Always a welcoming smile or I would say a grin. Full of life, love and happiness. His sense of humour was to be admired. Cutting but kind. Quick but yet thoughtful. I remember my last visit with him and I gave him the Infiniti Formula 1 shirt. He hugged it all night like it was a baby blanket. We will miss him but we will remember the many laughs and always his commitment to family. “Family Tradition”!! Looking forward to the future date of celebrating his life. We will share laughs and tears. Love, Perry “Allen” McFarlane
Marlene and family,
I must express my deepest sympathy to all of you. I know how much he will be missed.
Warm Regards,
Laverne steffen
We are sending our sincere condolences to Marlene and all the Vickers family on the very sad passing of Allen. I know my parents, Norm and Ruth Pimlott of Victoria, thought a lot of both Allen and Marlene, and had many fun times together, over many years. I talked to you in January when Mom passed away, but I believe you may have moved and Dad wanted to send you a card. Is it possible for you to send your current mailing address to me?: my email is colleenmarsel@gmail.com and your phone number so that Dad can talk to you Marlene? I remember many wonderful summer holidays on Lake Okanagan with the family. Allen was a great man. My Dad is 91 years old now….it would sure be great if we could connect with you again. Sending our Condolences….love all the Pimlott Family.
