We Remember

WAHL, Adela Marthe

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the age of 92. Survived by many nieces and nephews and their families who all called her Tante. Predeceased by her husband Edward and all her siblings, Rome, Gaston, Herman and Jeanette.

Adela grew up in Espanola, ON and then lived in Toronto.  After she married, they relocated to the Okanagan in the 1960’s and developed the largest vineyard of that time – The Monashee Estates Vineyard. They square-danced their way around the world, travelled across Canada and loved camping. She lived a rich and full life.

Tante dedicated her life to helping the less fortunate through the Society of Saint Vincent De Paul of the Central Okanagan. She touched all who met her and will be remembered as the much-loved Energizer Bunny who will be greatly missed.

Adela loved bright colors so please dress accordingly at her Funeral Service on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 11:00 am at St Pius X Catholic Church, 1077 Fuller Ave., Kelowna, BC, with Father Gerald Sekanga officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Society of Saint Vincent De Paul of the Central Okanagan, www.ssvpokv.ca.  If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Condolences

  • Gale and Lynn Honey says:

May we send our condolences to Adela’s family. We considered Adela to be our friend over many years as a 950 Lanfranco neighbour. She and I were part of our famous walkers group and Gale enjoyed years of playing bridge with Adela at our common room. We enjoyed many happy outings together.. She was a treasure to know. She will be missed.
    Regards, Lynn and Gale Honey

  • Angela Pomeroy says:

Adela was such a shining light to all of us who had the privilege of meeting her. I was fortunate to have spent time with her in the St. Vincent de Paul conference at St. Pius X Parish. She was a deeply spiritual and kind lady who was full of exuberance and joy and deeply committed to serving the poor. I learned a great deal about service from this humble and loving woman. We will miss her presence but our Dear Lord has gained an angel. and our prayers extend to her lovely family.

  • Mike Wilson (St. Vincent de Paul St. Pius X) says:

I was sad to hear the news of Adela’s passing. I arrived in Canada in August of 2011 and joined the St. Pius X St. Vincent de Paul Conference in the March of 2012. Adela was a regular attendee of the meetings at that time. Her welcoming smile and open personality helped me make a connection with the group. During meetings I found her receptive and generous towards the families we were discussing and always willing to offer advice and always voting to help those in need with a little bit of extra money.
I last spoke to Adela about four months ago on the telephone. Despite her declining health she was her usual friendly self and was willing to engage in a conversation about her health and the work of the Society of St. vincent de Paul.
We offered prayers for Adela at the last St. Vincent de Paul meeting.
Unfortunately I was unable to attend the funeral mass.
    God Bless
Mike Wilson President The Society of St.Vincent de Paul St.Pius X
