We Remember

WANLIN, Theresa

June 9, 1925 — January 13, 2017

On Jan.13th 2017, the world lost a beautiful woman, who courageously fought a yearlong battle with cancer. Theresa Wanlin was a true matriarch; Mother to 8, Grandmother to 17 and Great Grandmother to 26, she was dearly loved by all of them. Born Theresa deMontigny in Ponteix, Saskatchewan, she grew up during the Great Depression. Being one of eleven children, she was tough as nails, yet tender as a rose. Theresa married Joseph Wanlin in 1947 in Val Marie, Saskatchewan and together they started a family in Blairmore, Alberta before eventually relocating to Whitewater, Montana then Calgary, Alberta and later Peachland, BC. Over the years, Theresa would become the neighbourhood mom to countless kids. Her cookies and homemade buns were legendary. School day lunches around her table were always a busy affair. After 32 years of marriage, she was predeceased by Joseph in 1980 and she moved to Kelowna, BC soon after. She later lost her companion, Peter Cote in 2002. She is also predeceased by her ten brothers and sisters and two of her grandsons. Theresa lived 91 glorious years, surrounded by the family she adored until the end. She leaves behind her children, Bob Wanlin (Clara) of Leduc, AB; Linda Rodd (Pete) of Summerland, BC; Sandy Perkins of Edmonton, AB; Gloria Braley (Mark) of Williams Lake, BC; Joyce Holmes (Jeff) of Kelowna, BC; Joanne Irmen (Zack) of Kelowna, BC; Tim Wanlin (Loreen) of Richmond, BC; and Holly Wanlin of Kelowna, BC. The family wishes to thank all those who made her final days peaceful, including Dr. Larry Bobyn and the staff at the Central Okanagan Hospice House. A funeral will be held in the spring.
