Condolences

  • Alfred & Diane Hampel says:

We have many fond memories of Uncle Dean & Aunt Moreen’s visits to Lloydminster & area. When I was younger I remember riding horses with Uncle Dean whenever they came to the farm south of Marshall, SK. On the last trip they made to the old stomping grounds they came up to Lac des Isles ( Meadow Lake Provincial Park) in Saskatchewan where all Byron’s kids & their spouses had congregated for the weekend at Bob & Deb’s cabin. Uncle Dean came out fishing with us for about 4 hours. We didn’t keep any fish but shared a lot of laughs in the boat. They also sat around the campfire with us until quite late at night. It was a really great time.
I also just finished reading a collection of memories of people who had lived in the “Yankee Bend” later changed to “North Bend” area northeast of Lloydminster near the North Saskatchewan River. One of the old school teachers told of how grateful she was for all the help one of the older students had given her during her first year teaching. That student was Uncle Dean. Even back then he was a kind and generous person. He will be missed very much by all of us in the family.

To Moreen, Bev, Brian, Barry, Brad and families…..thinking of you all at this time. We have so many great memories of times spent visiting and spending time with Dean & Moreen over the years….at the cabin at Moberly Lake, the IGA store in Chetwynd, and then visiting them down south after they retired. I will remember Dean with a smile on his face, teasing the little kids, quietly joking around but always had a hug for everyone. He was a great guy and will be fondly remembered.

Aunt Moreen and family, we were saddened to hear of the passing of Uncle Dean. We wish we could be there with you to say goodbye to such a great man. Richard’s memories of the IGA days as a young kid keep coming back to mind. Uncle Dean gave all of us kids a chance to learn how to work and gain our independence. We can only say thank you to him. Our visits to Winfield were filled with happy times and could include an early morning ride around the neighbourhood with the horse and wagon in your pjs. We regret we can’t be there with you but we send you our love and prayers.

Dear Moreen and Family, My condolences to all of you.
As a kid I remember always going with mom to the IGA shopping. Dean would always make a effort to greet us with a big smile or a helping hand. Visits and meals were shared at my parents house in Chetwynd many times. Laughter, story telling and playing cards is what I recall the most. Dean also made a special effort to include us kids which made me feel worthy of his time. Square dancing was another time my parents, the Lefflers and Turners spent together with Dean. The imprint Dean made in our community of Chetwynd has never been replaced. Be proud of your husband, father and grandfather as he was truly one of a kind. Moreen my prayers are with you as you morn the loss of your soul mate. God bless you all.

My heartfelt Condolences to the Westgate Family. My fondest childhood memories were our family visits with my Westgate kin in Chetwynd. Only there did I experience the freedom of exploring the barns and fields making friends with all the animals. It was not until 1999 when I started researching my genealogy that I came to realize that my Westgate blood was core to my being. The happiness you shared so openly across the years will never be forgotten. Your family is amazing and I will never forget. I am so sorry for your loss.
