Jose had a very special place in her heart for each family member whether they were blood related or through marriage, for example her nieces in Holland she called her “overseas daughters” Carla Mecking and Marijke Mecking.

Josephine was born and raised in the Netherlands, along with 5 siblings. She immigrated to Canada in 1954 and spent many years in Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario with her family. During the end of the 1960’s she moved across Canada to British Columbia and decided to settle in the South Okanagan Valley in Oliver BC. She spent many years on her hobby farm raising a variety of animals and tending to a small orchard. She became a well known member of the community within her family band, where she played the bass guitar and keyboards. Jose, her husband and her daughter were awarded the “Oliver Good Citizen” award in 1990 for their ongoing service to the community. Jose loved helping those in need, music, a great conversation, the beautiful scenery of Canada, taking care of animals and sharing kindness and love to family and friends.
