  • Gloria Clay says:

Moe, you were such a good friend, always a twinkle in your eye and a smile. Thanks for sharing your black jelly beans. You will be missed, Dear. To Marion, Frank, and all of your family and friends, my deepest condolences. Your pain and suffering is at an end. Hopefully we will meet again, in the hereafter.

  • Randy Hundt says:

Moe – as a young buck recruit back in ’73, I appreciated your candour, your sense of humour and treating me like one of the boys. Thank you and rest in peace.

  • Zak n Doreen Zaichkowsky says:

Sorry to hear of Maurice’s passing. Great memories from Vernon Detachment in 70’s.
    You still look the same.

    • Barbara Spaans says:

So sorry to hear of a loss of a good person from a good time in our lives in Vernon.
I would love to hear from any more from then too.

  • Ken & Lil Osmond says:

I/We, Ken and Lil Osmond, still of Comox, B.C., consider our Vernon years (1968 – 1973) to be among the best of my service. It was there that I met and worked with Maurice on Vernon Highway Patrol, for approx. 3 years. The working relationship developed into socializing, friendship, with that friendship lasting past Vernon Detachment, a few transfers and even 2 provinces.

Well into retirement, we stayed in touch by phone, occasionally personally, and later by e-mail, always checking on each other and our respective families. Which makes the last call, In March of 2016, extremely pertinent, satisfying, and ever so special. Thank you for your gift of time.

To Rob, Kim, and your respective families, we only knew you when you were peanuts, but it was exiting to follow your growth and development. Our hearts are with you

    Sincerely

    Ken and Lil Osmond

  • Bobby and Sophie Blahun says:

Our most deepest sympathy to all of Maurice’s family, Marj and all his many friends. We first met Maurice while stationed in Prince George and have kept in touch ever since. We will cherish the many memories and good times that we shared at our home in Bragg Creek, AB. We will also treasure the short visit we enjoyed with Maurice and Marj in March in Kelowna.
To Rob and Kim we also only knew you when you were just little tikes, but Maurice kept us updated on your journey through your young lives.
We are saddened to say that we unfortunately will not be able to attend Maurice’s memorial service, but our thoughts and prayers will be with him.
Maurice may you rest in peace!! and until we meet again!!!

  • Jim and Donna Weiss says:

Donna and I wish to express our sadness, upon hearing of the passing of Maurice . I have many fond memories of our time working together in Prince George. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, at this difficult time.

  • John Urban says:

My condolence go out to your family. Always remember what a good defenseman you where on the Viceroy hockey team.

  • Curtis Ziprick says:

I as well as my wife Maureen would like to extend our sympathy to Marj , (Moe’s long time companion), Moe’s family and his many friends. I met Moe up in the hills above Winfield while getting firewood about 25 years ago. Our friendship developed from our mutual love of the outdoors, dogs and computers. I remember many a night getting home from work with a message on the phone requesting help with his computer, I would go over to fix it, but there was nothing wrong with it. What I came to realize was it was an excuse for a visit till 3am. Our visits discussing the News, Outdoors, Dogs, and Computers will be missed, but your friendship will be missed the most. Godspeed my friend.

  • Robert & Karen Poland says:

I worked with Maurice in Pr. George in the 70’s on Highway Patrol/ City Traffic. Maurice you were always willing to assist and offer guidance to junior members, even while you were in extreme pain with your back. You will be missed by those who’s life you enriched by just meeting you. I’ll miss your Rainman emails.
Sorry, I will be unable to attend the memorial service due to upcoming eye surgery.
Our thought and prayers are with you and your loved ones.

  • JON PETTERSEN says:

MY NAME IS JON PETTERSEN. I’VE KNOWN MAURICE FOR 16 YEARS. I FIRST WENT UP TO HIS CLAIM AT THE MINERS CABIN IN 2000.I REMEMBER GOOD TIMES AROUND THE CAMP FIRE AND PLAYING WITH ABBEY AND BEAR. I CAN STILL SEE BEAR COMING OUT OF THE BUSH WITH AN OLD LID FROM A PAINT CAN THAT HE LIKED TO CHASE.ONE NIGHT I HEARD A BIG COMMOTION AND WENT RUNNING OUT OF MY TENT TO SEE BIG FLOODLIGHTS ON, ABBEY BARKING AND MAURICE STANDING THERE WITH A RIFLE IN HIS HAND.WHAT’S GOING ON I ASKED MAURICE. THERE IS A BEAR AROUND THE CAMP. I LOOKED AROUND BUT COULDN’T SEE HIS DOG, BEAR SO ASSUMED HE WENT IN THE BUSH CHASING THE BEAR AWAY. MAURICE LOOKED UNDER THE TRAILER AND BEAR WAS THERE HIDING. MAURICE SAID BEAR DOG IS OLDER AND SMARTER AND HE ISN’T GOING TO CHASE A GRIZZLY IN THE BUSH AT NIGHT. HE BURIED BEAR AND ABBEY AT THE MINERS CABIN WITH A PLAQUE AND A PICTURE WITH FULL HONOURS WHEN THEY DIED. MAURICE RESCUED DOGS AND TOOK GOOD CARE OF THEM. HE WOULD PUT SPECIAL VITAMINS AND MEDICINE IN THEIR FOOD AS THEY GOT OLDER. I STAYED WITH MAURICE WHEN I MOVED FROM NANAIMO IN 2008 HE WAS VERY GOOD TO ME.WHILE THERE I FIXED HIS FENCE, BUILT SOME STEPS OUT BACK AND PITTED PEACHES FOR JARRING.HE ALWAYS HAD LOTS OF FOOD IN THE FREEZER BUT HE MAINLY LIVED ON COFFEE, SMOKES AND JELLY BEANS. I USED TO WATCH HIM PLAY ONLINE POKER. HE WOULD CALL THE PLAY BY PLAY AND TELL ME ALL THE STUPID MOVES THE OTHER PLAYERS WERE MAKING.THEN ONE NIGHT HE SURPRISED HIMSELF, HE WENT ALL THE WAY AND ONE TOP PRIZE OF 400 BUCKS. I WAS HOOTING AND HOLLERING WITH EXCITEMENT BUT HE JUST STARED AT THE SCREEN IN DISBELIEF. I DON’T THINK HE EVER THOUGHT HE WOULD ACTUALLY WIN. WE HAD SOME GOOD TRIPS TO WOODY’S PUB FOR STEAK SANDWICH NIGHT OR WINGS.WHEN I MOVED TO VERNON I WOULD VISIT MAURICE AND HE WOULD ASK ME TO BRING JELLY BEANS FROM WALMART AND GINGER BEEF FROM HIS FAVOURITE CHINESE FOOD PLACE. I WENT BACK TO LOOK AFTER HIS DOGS WHEN HE VISITED HIS SISTER IN REGINA. MAURICE’S FAVOURITE CLAIM WAS ” THE BIFF” AND WE SPENT GOOD TIMES PANNING AND SLUICING THERE. HE SLOWED DOWN ON PROSPECTING IN THE LAST 5 YEARS BUT WHENEVER HE CALLED ME HE WOULD TELL ME THAT HE KNOWS WHERE THE GOLD IS AND WE JUST HAVE TO GET UP THERE AND CLEAR SOME BRUSH AND SET UP HIS BIG NEW HIGH BANKER AND AWAY WE GO, ” THERE’S GOLD IN DEM DARE HILLS ” WE NEVER DID GET THERE. HE STARTED TRAVELLING WITH MARJE TO START A DIFFERENT PHASE OF HIS LIFE AND HE LOVED IT SO I GUESS HE FOUND THE GOLD IN THE END. I’M SURE HE IS UP THERE LOOKING FOR THAT MOTHER LOAD AND HAS SOME DOGS HE RESCUED WITH HIM TO KEEP THE BEARS AWAY. THANK YOU MAURICE FOR MAKING MY LIFE MORE INTERESTING.

  • Bernard Frye says:

I will never forget Maurice, and Ed McCain were in pictures of me and my wife in 1973 at the Canadian Collectors Club in Vancouver where I won the “Best of Canadian Content” award…The pictures of my receiving the award with Maurice in the pictures will always be kept…..Friend Bernie in Terre Haute, Indiana….God speed.

  • Bonnie Myhill says:

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of my ex boss and long time friend. I started to work with Maurice in 1983 and remained friends ever since. Clyde and I enjoyed sharing stories with him whenever we got together. I am glad that him and Marj got to come to Arizona for at-least a couple of times and we had many visits and laughs under the Arizona sunshine. We so missed you this last winter. Rest in peace our friend.
